I kind of got into a rush buying a truck to pull our new travel trailer. Love the black crewmax w sx package. Although upon learning that it only gets 9-10 mpg while towing, I'm wishing I knew there was a 38-gallon option. I only have 26. Looks like Transfer Flow, Titan, and LRA have 46-gallon tanks but are close to $2k. Maybe find a 38g at junkyard? Any suggestions? Also thinking the silver wheels that come on the trd models would look nice since my truck is all black bumper to bumper. Wondering if anyone would trade for my 18" black wheels?

If your truck came with the trd alloy wheels it should have came with the 38 gallon tank.

There's also quite a buffer on the fuel gauge, about 10gal, so if you filled up when you were close to E and it took 26ish gal, you have the 38gal tank....i didn't even think the 26gal tank was even an option anymore.

I had 10 miles left to empty today and only put in 30 gallons.

    Welcome from Wyoming.

Tanks swaps have been done before, so you should be able to do it if you have the funds.

Wheel swap will be easy for anyone close to you. The black wheels are almost always more sought after. Heck, I have my TRD off roads and would trade if you're close.

@Latitudes77 Quite a few people cover their wheels in vinyl or plastidip to make them black so you should have no problem finding someone who will trade your TRD black wheels for the silver/black TRD off road wheels, if that is what you want. I will do it if you are located in So Cal, which is unlikely given the trees in your photo.

Hmm...I didn't get any notifications about replies to this thread. :-/ I'll have to check my settings. Thanks for the welcome messages.
To clarify, I do not have TRD. I have the black wheels that came with my SR5 in the SX package. Still open for anyone that wants to trade wheels. Interested in the steel alloy wheels that seem to come on most trd models. In Columbus, OH. Just shy of 3,000 miles on mine.

Thanks for the tips on @Roman and car-part.com. Reaching out to them now. Thinking I may go with the 38 gallon OEM tank as opposed to spending 2k+ on the 46-gallon from LRA or TF.

You sure you have the 26 gallon tank? If you drive down to near E, on the 38, you will likely put in upper 20s gallons. I think their orientation under the frame makes for a lot of unusable fuel to keep the pump cool etc. There are some threads on the topic already. The 26 gallon tank has I think about 20 usable gallons. 38 gallon has about 25-30. It’s almost as hot a topic as the tranny cooler...

When it hits E, it only takes 20 gallons.

That very odd. I have the same 2020 SX package and have the 38 gallon tank.

Well mine is definitely 26 gallon. I've found other SR5s for sale that specifically have an "SR5 upgrade package" that includes 38 gallon tank.

The way that Tundra's resale values have skyrocketed you could sell it and buy a 38 gallon model. My dealer offered to buy mine back for what I paid for it.

Yes I've thought long and hard about that. But the 2 dealerships I've contacted have said I'll lose thousands $$. But yes, if I can find a dealership willing to give me a deal, I'd love to do that and get a TRD.

Maybe because you are in Canada...? I believe there are some differences in the trim levels based upon which market the vehicle will be delivered to.

I believe SX trims are regional dealer trims and not official Toyota options. The included options and packages are not ones you would see in the website. You have to look at the window sticker to verify what are you getting.

I notice SX packages are usually SR trims with tons of add on accessories to make it more appealing to sell. Kind of make sense, since SR trims are not really sought after. SR were made for commercial use, but businesses rarely buy Tundras.

I did a quick check with Toyota.ca and Toyota.com. the SX is no longer available in Canada but is still available in the US. My SX is a SR5 and has all the SR5 upgrades. In this day and age too bad you could spec out a Tundra exactly the way you want it. For me I would have love to get the SR bench seat, 20" black wheels, spray in factory bed liner and auto climate control.

In Southeast Toyota they still have the special packages. They call it 'XP' here, it's listed under 'accessories', rather than 'packages' section like SR5, TRD Off-road/Sport, Trail, or Nightshade. Usually is on SR trim, sometimes SR5. I think it is mainly to increase the price and sell overstocked SR trims.

For me, I wished they made the bench seat, 38 gallon tank, and moonroof. It would be nice to stand up and look out the moonroof. :woot:
