$15K isn't a bad price at all for that.

Value of used things is so variable. Good on you for making an offer. You can't get a yes if you don't ask.

And actually, I really don’t want someone else’s project. I’d rather do all of the work myself. Granted, I do like his wheels and the shell. The bumpers, meh.

Im curious, how much of a deterrent is clear coat chipping and some dings in the truck bed?
What is everyone’s opinion on a stock truck vs a modified truck?
I’m thinking hard about selling my truck for a double cab (wife, baby, and dog) and trying to decide how much I should put into repairing paint, and possibly taking off some of my modifications.
Sorry OP, I don’t mean to thread jack, but could be beneficial since I have an 2003 AC.

Knowing the only correct fix for clearcoat fail is a repaint, I was avoiding it like the plague. I'd be OK with some bed dings, within reason, nothing bedrug or drop-in liner won't fix.

I personally like to fuck my own shit up, and I don't even trust shops to touch my truck typically shy of things I don't have equipment or expertise with (i.e. proper alignments), so I damn sure don't want someone else's project. I say that knowing - some day - I'll get an offer on my truck I can't refuse and/or will sell to someone and they'll probably be just like me and not want it b/c it's modded.

De-modding is easy enough. Get some 5100s and used OEM leafs in fair shape, pick up some used OEM wheels on CL. Spend a casual Saturday swapping it out. Unless you really, really want to go buy DC then spend $8k+ buying a completely different suspension and wheel/tire setup. I'd rather spend $1,500 to get Billies installed in the current ride - for an OEM+ "upgraded" TRD feel - then throw it on the market. The reality is, any buyer who knows these trucks will appreciate the fact they have all they need to lift minus blocks/AAL/leafs.

I guess the real question is this: You'll get the same amount of money whether you (A) spend $1,500 to "downgrade" to new 5100s etc. and potentially have little to no expense on your new DC, or leave your current stuff on, and spend 6x more than those 5100s would've cost to get new suspension/wheels/tires. For me, unless you're tired of the suspension setup and wheels/tires, the logical, fiscally responsible choice is to take the suspension/wheels/tires with you.

I think it depends on the modification. What are you referring to?

Agree with @FirstGenVol. Some mods help keep value in the truck while others decrease it. Really depends on what you're referring to.

Yeah, I generally want a clean canvas to start off with. I’ll take a well-maintained stock truck any day.

SCS wheels, ADS suspension, BD fog lights and ditch lights. I've tried to keep my mods limited and only do things that are necessary. Take the truck back to stock minus upgraded speakers, stereo, and leather seats.

That's along the lines of my thinking too. I don't know the quality of other peoples work, so a stock truck is fewer unknowns than a modified truck.
I'm on the fence about having some more parts repainted and unsure if the cost will be reflected in resale. I doubt it, but hard to say.

Well, I might have a mostly stock truck soon if you have any interest. I have to figure a couple things out first, but might be listing it in a month.

I wouldn't pull any of that off your truck. Most people will like that. Some won't, but it's not worth removing. ADS shocks are a huge upgrade that some people will appreciate.

Yep, that’s what I’m looking for. AC 4x4 with under 200k miles is what I want. Ideally, a shell/topper too.

I'm currently at 242k miles. The original owners son drove it for 2 years back and forth to university of Boulder, which is why the higher miles and dents. But I can show pics from when I did valve covers and engine looks great.
If you're interested I can keep you posted when it's ready to sell.

Mine had 221,000 when I got it, and has 248,000 now. My Land Cruiser (same engine - 2UZ-FE) has 308,000. I'm planning on both trucks reaching 500,000 mi, so I spend on maintenance and restoration as I can afford to. It's not clear that I'm going to make it to 500,000, however., but right now it's looking good.

Sure. It can’t hurt. The mileage is a bit more than I want to start off with but you can keep me posted anyway.
