They're around. Found mine in Tucson recently for right around your max price point. 87K. You're close enough to expand your search to AZ. Maybe because I own one now, but I see A LOT of them around here.49D7940D-0890-44B5-8E2B-2B3FF167D88D.jpg A082DBD4-004B-419A-9E15-59349EE00E75.jpg

I’ve been searching about a 500 mile radius and it’s tough. Nice find! That’s exactly what I’m looking for :monocle:

Where did you find the truck? Craigslist, Autotrader, Facebook?

    Autotrader. Which was surprising.

That’s what I’ve been thinking. I’ve expanded my search but don’t want to get a rust problem on my hands if I don’t need to. That 03 has potential if it ain’t rusted out underneath. Thanks for the heads up

Look at the carfax. Registrations are in there and if it's a rust belt truck you'll see it in the history. Myself and others here have done fairly well with fly and buy. It opens up options for sure. If they don't want to work with you for good pics of undercarriage or any video calls, omit them from your possibles.

How do the trucks from the PNW fare in terms of rust? I’m seeing a few up in WA but maaaan that’s far from the Tijuana border! I believe they salt the roads but maybe not as much as the Midwest.

I would also pass if they won't pick you up from the airport. I've been picked up by a dealer, and a private seller and had a great experience both times.

I think it would depend on location but someone from pnw can likely give us a better answer. I think coastal locations have some salt in the air. We bought a Bay Area ca car that had more rust than we anticipated. We noticed it when I flew out. I Passed on it and learned a lot from that fly and buy experience.

I live in the pnw and my truck is from here and still has some rust. I recall seeing on the Carfax that it spent some time in the part of the state that gets a decent amount of snow per year, so that probably explains why. As you may know (and pointed out in the wanna buy a 1st gen guide) you just never know where they've been driven to; it could be a Cali truck that they took to the mountains all the time and therefore have a ton of rust.

    I wish you luck!

Yeah that doesn't look good. I'm always suspicious of posts that give so little info too. Like c'mon at least give me the VIN! Then I can see that it has a rebuilt title and 3 accidents

It's been my experience from previous hunting "little info = big problems". And half or more of ones with no info ended up being salvage title, probably more. 10 words or less, 90% had too many issues/snags to write, the seller was only interested in getting viewers.

Ya, too many shady sellers anymore. Can't count how many times I almost got scammed. "forgot to mention" accidents and title issues mainly. Then there's the Venmo / Cash app scammers.

I know Carfax is expensive but in my opinion completely worth it if you're serious enough to check out a car.

Carfax is your friend for sure. Shady sellers will post as little info as possible. Honest sellers will work with you, sharing vin, getting you pics of frame or other areas you request etc. As @shifty` already said, if a seller has an offer that seems to good, it likely is. Can't reiterate this point enough when looking at a buy a fly option.

Pretty clean. I saw it on CL but I want the AC since I will be driving some trails that favor a shorter wheelbase.

I'm in Denver if you want me to check out either of those for you.

Most of CO doesn't use salt, but they do a bit in the mountains so it really depends on where it was driven, same in UT, WA and OR.

Wow, thanks for the offer! I’m passing on the blue one. It’s a little rougher than I want and the other is a DC so I’m passing on that one as well. I’m hoping that something pops up here in California or Arizona that has a nice shell too. In the meantime, I’ll keep putting away more $$ so I can get the nicest one possible. Thank you for offering to look at those. I knew I came to the right place to ask advice!

This guy wants 16k for this truck that has spent its entire life in CO. He says it's rust-free. I'm learning rust-free means different things to different people. I asked him to send me some pictures of the frame, so we'll see.[IMG]

Yeah. I see snow. I see no pictures of the frame. Those two things do not equate in my experience.

That rig looks nice. Hope it works out for you. Probably a little more than you wanted to spend but to keep it in perspective, I bought my 06 in 2010 with 83k miles for 16 grand. Dollars are much easier to come by these days.have the sleet get you video and pics of anything you want. If they don't want to comply, walk.

Haha, right? "take everything I say with a life-long exposure to salt". I thought I'd throw that in there.
There's this one up in NorCal, and it's well taken care of by the sound of it, but I have a hard time spending money on a truck with darn near 300k miles.
