I talked with a guy at HD today. He had a brand new 7.3 F350. He really liked it vs his 2016 6.7 power stroke. It was great until about 225k miles. Then it cost him 500-1000 per month to keep it going (I think that was an exaggeration) and sold it with 300k on it. He did have to replace the transmission in it and that was 10k.

Oddly enough, this was his second 7.3 truck. His first one had an engine failure at 10k miles. 2024 :eek2:

His was a late model 2024. Actually purchased as a left over in 2025.

Wonder if it was his maintenance or lack there of? It's hard to say without all the information.

Funny, he also has a buddy with a 7.3L in a drift car. They beat on it like it owes them money....not one issue.

This is a fantastic idea

I asked for advice here when I was shopping for an HD and received some very helpful responses. There are a lot of decent people on this forum. Would love to see more HD discussion, advice, opinion, etc.
It's great to be able to discuss multiple brands in one place...

I mean it only really makes sense in the off topic area on a forum dedicated to Tundras. It’s not really any different than having an EV subforum to me. Also, so many Tundra owners get pushed out because of towing and payload limitations.

I have been surprised by how many forum members have Tundras and an HD for heavy hauling.

Makes sense to me for those reasons.

Only thing is, this might take away from the "Tundra Enthusiast" part of the site.

That might be a hard sell in Southern California.

I’ll cast my meaninglessly unnecessary vote for an hd subforum.

Fortunately I’m 5 years or more from being in the market for anything. But I like having some info before I buy.

Holding out hope that big T drops the ½ ton and moves to a ¾ anyway. (They won’t). But with the way this whole TTV6 nightmare has been handled, I don’t have much confidence in going that route. <5% of my current towing hauling needs (which make up <25% of my driving) would be better served with a ¾ ton. But, smoke em if ya got em as they say.

it’s not that Toyota isn’t doing anything to remedy the mess, it’s the arbitrary nature of it. Replacing “perfectly fine” motors because of an arbitrary date window while guys who have broken down are left in the lurch because of arbitrary factors (in order of increasing stupidity):
    1. Outside the recall window
    2. Not in the proper “phase” of the recall
    3. BeCuZ HyBridz
is just the confidence killing behavior for me. Long ago when this mess started I was a very strong advocate for increasing the warranty to the platinum level or equivalent (7-10 yrs, 100-150k) as this would say “we are Toyota, we’re the best, and we fixed the problem.”
The garbage going on now assures me they haven’t fixed it yet *and* it’s a design flaw.

Would be a great addition to the off-topic section.
I know a few Tundra Enthusiasts that also own an HD; different tools for different jobs.

This is the best forum I've been able to find. Great community here.

Yep, in my opinion it's a crap shoot when picking out a HD from the big 3. I've not owned a HD but have had friends that have had a lot of problems with all 3.
Buddy has a Ram 3500. He has a seal that is leaking. Needs a special tool to fix it. Has other problems. Had a Ford F250 before that. Nothing but problems. Another buddy had an F250, had nothing but problems out of it. Serious problems. Diesel Engine was replaced.
I HOPE you get a really good one that serves you for a really long time!! Good luck!!

I'm sure there are many here who have both a Tundra and an HD truck. As such, a subforum would be in line with the ethos of this site. It would add a lot to the site, but also enable a good place for questions, answers, and regular topics.

ETA: Looking at the thoughts and comments of several Tundra owners, especially with the 3rd Gen, there are many here who have left the Tundra because of a myriad of reasons. @GODZILLA even had a thread about what we did to our trucks that are not 3rd gen.

At the top is a poll of who left and why. Had it not been for you, @ColoradoTJ, inviting me on the PM's, I would have left Tundras.com all together because I didn't think I would have any place to really hang out. Couple that with the photo threads, and trips, and other sub forums, I am able to say that I can engage a lot here AND not have a Tundra. A sub forum would just make that more complete and probably would draw away some from the actual HD forums that exist and are kinda dead.

I know because I started a membership at one and it was dismal at best.

ETAA: That thread by Godzilla would be a great first pinned post under that sub forum!
