I may be a simple man and don’t need fancy stuff, but I sold my pickup (it was still on the road) when it was 24 years old and my T100 was 24 years old as well when I smashed it up in an accident and they were both daily driven and used and abused. If you take care of the truck it will last a long time and not cost you much money to keep going.

I have a 6.5' bed on my CM specially modified by Precision Bodylines. Love it. Not sure about an 8.1 on a CM. Mine's pretty long and can be a bitch to park, but I think the 8.1 on a CM looks awesome.

Looks like the total cost is going to be around $43,000 with tax for a new 2020! The last new truck I bought was a 1987 Mazda B2000 for $5,500. lol
I never owned a full size truck before, so this should be fun.
Been kicking around the idea of putting a plow on it, since my driveway is 2 block long. but I don't think I want to do that on a brand new truck. I heard plowing is really hard on a truck, and probably just stick with my tractor. Only disadvantage, the tractor does not have a cab, so when you get wind chills of -30, it gets kinda cold plowing.

the fuel conomy will shock you at first...you'll get used to it and likely make some driving habit changes. I'd say build a cab for the tractor with the money you'd spend on a plow for the truck ;)

I think you wont have trouble getting 20 years out of it. Just do oil changes and regular scheduled maintenance and when something does go wrong, take care of it.

ya! Especially when I have a Toyota Prius that gets 50+ mpg, but I hardly drive at all since I work from home full time, so it won't get driven much. Maybe 5,000 miles year, so I should be able to get 20 years out of it?

Nice! I was guessing I would get around 13 with it. Free oil changes for life with the dealer, so they will be doing all that. I heard changing the oil on the new Tundra is a nightmare anyway with the non-cartridge oil filter they are using now.

Oil changes take a couple of extra steps and can be messy if the right tools are not used. I always have DIY my oil changes on all of my vehicles since the 60s, the one maintenance item I don't want to trust others to do right. I'm 70 years old and still crawl under for oil/filter changes with the front wheels on ramps. No problems (every 10k miles anyway).

I had a 2008 Tundra SR5 2WD with the 8.1 bed and loved it . It had a smoother ride and for some reason got better MPH than the shorter Tundras . I put the Toyota dual exhaust kit on it and it looked and sounded great . It also came with Michelin tires and using the cruise I averaged 21-23 MPH if you drove sensibly . The LB is harder to find but if you are not in a hurry have your dealer search for one through the dealer network or have the dealer order one for you .You'll be glad you did.

If you only do 5k miles a year it'll take you 20 years to hit 100k on the truck, and that's nothing for these. Let's say you love it and drive it more than expected and put double that on it; chances are good you will still have a functional truck.
I researched heavily before making my purchase because I was going to a single vehicle from 2 and reliability was of paramount concern. I started off looking at Rangers, Tacomas, Colorados, F150s, 4Runners, and even the Kia Telluride. 6 months of reading mountains of articles, forums, and reviews let me eliminate some for lack of practicality in the snow I deal with, while others were dropped for reliability/lack of value. Is the Tundra perfect? No. Is reliabile? Yes. The only mandatory thing for me was that it had to have the 5.7 NON flex fuel engine; not that you have any other option on a 2020.
Here is a link to an engine review that sums it up nicely. -> https://www.motorreviewer.com/engine.php?engine_id=108

Cool! I think anything from Toyota is pretty reliable in my opinion. That is what i did when I bought my Prius, which is the most reliable passenger car on the market. It is a Prius V, which is the bigger longer Prius, which was only made for a few years. I bought it new in 2015 for $32,000 on a zero percent loan and that will be paid off in July, then I will get the Tundra.

I get a lot of looks and questions, because it is rare car now and not too many people ever seen one and it only has 50,000 miles on it. Going to be really nice to have a truck, been hauling feed, lumber and all sorts of things in my Prius.

Been kicking the idea of 4x2 vs 4x4? My driveway is 2 blocks long and it does get pretty deep in snow during storms, but I never need to go anywhere anyway. Less can go wrong on a 4x2, since it has no transfer case?

Fewer moving parts does mean fewer possible points of failure, but as you said, Toyota is reliable. If you do get a 4x4 you will have the option to go places that a 4x2 might struggle, and it will always help in the snow. Personally I would rather have it and not need it than the other way around. If you get a 4x4 you just have to engage and run it periodically to basically keep the system limbered up. I'd weigh out the additional cost and see what it does to you payment before writing it off.

3,000 more for 4x4 on the 2020, so not bad? Ya..I heard that about engaging the 4x4 periodically, I suppose I can take it in my back field once in once in a while since I have some acreage. I have read up on that, becuase i never owned or drove a 4x4 before, so I would have no idea how to engage and run it?

Super simple. It's a knob you turn and it engages. You don't want to turn your wheels on anything solid and dry while in 4x4 or you can bind things up and cause wear, and you don't want to make really sharp turns in it at anytime if you can avoid it. So for the exercise of the system in dry conditions you just pop it into 4x4 and drive in a straight line for a bit, and then pop it off. The manual does a good job of explaining all of it.

Doing some quick calculator math, $3000 with an additional 5% for interest is $3150. Divided over 60 months of a loan it'd be $52.50 per month to have 4x4. If you do a longer or shorter loan or run a different interest rate that will vary, but it gives you the idea of the monthly cost. I'm sure a finance wizard will correct all my numbers, but it's close enough to get a halfass idea. Personally, an extra 50-60 bucks a month to have 4x4 is an easy call for me, but I also know that I need it in the winter.

Thanks! I will think this over, because to be honest, I don't think I would ever use the 4x4 option? Just thought 4x4's were more heavy duty for pulling camper and stuff, which is something I want to do in a couple of years.

I live in western rural Minnesota on a farm near a small town called a Olivia. we are in a blizzard and I have 2 foot of snow on my 2 block long driveway. Probably a good time to own a 4x4?!

Video I took of my driveway yesterday during the snow storm in western Minnesota and this is in my car! About 1 hour later, I could not drive anymore since it got too deep. I can't plow it till late Sunday, becuase of the blizzard warning, so I am stuck! So this is maybe where the 4x4 option would come in? Roads also around here don't get plowed fast, so it could be 3 days.

4x4 does have anything to do with towing. I watched your video of your driveway, and that's a prime reason to get the 4x4. Imagine an emergency where you needed to get out and there was too much snow for the car? To each their own, but you could definitely make use of it.

You might see if any dealers of any 4x4 vehicles near you have a 4x4 test course to give you an idea of what they are capable of.

Yeah, I would recommend it. I live in the city and my truck has been in 4wd more than it's been in 2wd over the 3 weeks I've owned it so far.

Ah! Is that becuase the motor is slightly different for E85? I would never that stuff in anything anyway, alcohol is very corrosive.

I think the flex fuel engines have had some issues with fuel pumps and ethanol content calculations.
