Those with long tube headers, how did your low end torque change after install? Significantly better? About the same? Worse? What's the rest of your exhaust look like? Single? Duals? 2.5" tubing? 3" tubing? X-pipe? H-pipe?

Dual 3”, X pipe, bamufflers 3 catback and tailpipes, naturally aspirated makes the absolute best low end torque. Huge change very noticeable.

^^Same. Running JBA long tubes, stock cats in custom mid section by @dirtydeeds, trd dual replacement system with turn downs. Best mod to date hands down! You'll notice a huge improvement across all ranges not to mention it sounds absolutely BA! I have some sound clips on my build

Not trying to thread jack or anything but I am very interested in this mod. Talked to my mechanic who owns-runs a small auto repair shop. Also built and his son races a flat track sprint car. I talked to him about headers and he said there are a lot of problems with exhaust leaks and cast headers cracking? Are these problems of the old days or is there still some concerns? Peace. D

Seems like something you might run into with a cheap set off eBay, but I’m certainly no expert. I haven’t heard of any Tundra owners running JBA, Doug Thorley, OBX, or American Racing having any issues.

I’ve knstalled 30-40 sets. My shop foreman has installed 20-30 sets. Not a single problem or leak.

When we started having other guys install them for us the leaks began and the installer would alsways blame the headers.

Moral of the story, of a guy is afraid to tighten them down, they’re gonna leak. Torque spec with a 12mm box end wrench is TAF

No leaks so far and I did my own install. If you get in there and check the bolts every so often you'll be ok. When you have a good leak you'll hear it too, sounds like $hit

What kind of torque gains would you see just changing to long tube headers. What difference with long tube headers and exhaust

When you change out the headers, I'm assuming you have to get a custom down pipe made if you want to keep the stock cats...
I am also assuming making a custom down pipe incorporating your factory cats is not something that happens over night.
What are you guys doing? just not driving your trucks?

Awesome I was just talking to Keith @dirtydeeds on Wednesday about building this system for me with a dump over my axle on my build truck.

Most header leaks are from bubba mechanics that dont use torque specs, torque tightening method (I torque them like wheels),, or bad gaskets. I'm not a mechanic, but I used to wrench on turbo cars, so those are even more prone to leakage due to the massive amount of heat around the turbo area.

Gears and headers I'm excited to see how it turns out for you. Before the axle is how my 8" system is now. Keith and I spoke about it and with the headers and me wanting the least amount of noise and drone possible ( I'm an old guy) he explained the longer the exit pipes the better as it cancels out certain frequencies that cause drone. Since I'm not running a spare or anything in that area I figure well just go ahead and run it up high from the mufflers and straight back and dump it somewhere in the spare tire area.
