I also have the AMI door in flat black. The only problem with it is that they put a lock on it that uses the crappy CH751 key. There are probably at least 100 million people that have that key! It is used on just about every RV on the planet to lock the cargo doors. I replaced mine with a barrel lock from Industrial Lock & Hardware. You would think that with what they charge for the door they could put a decent lock on it! This photo was taken before I replaced the lock. (I also replaced the locks on my travel trailer at the same time, keyed the same, of course).

you don't have to piss off opportunistic losers for them to see your truck as an opportunity. last time i parked my truck at a park and ride i came back and my license plate was gone. since then, anytime i have to leave my truck for any extended period where I'm not close by...i'll leave the dd, camry.

I guess this turned into a for or against locking gas caps.

I hear more about car break ins than tampering with or stealing gas. To me it's not worth the potential issues of installing an aftermarket cap. But if the tundra came with one from the factory I wouldn't complain.

Not everyone can avoid it, but I just try to limit where and when I leave my truck parked. Don't piss off anyone on the road or in public and don't put any stickers on your vehicles.

Hey everyone wow thanks for the good info. I agree people are dumb sometimes and are jealous of others with nice things.

We all worked our asses off for are nice trucks and am sure we all want to keep them nice as possible.

I think I’m leaning towards just the locking gas cap (part number mentioned above earlier) keeping the factory one in the truck just in case.

My reason for the just the gas cap is probably because if someone (Ass) see’s the locking fuel door they may just (F) with it just because they know I’m trying to protect it. The cap would be hidden under a factory door and out of site out of mind. hopefully!!!

Oh well, you can't protect everything. I thought about a locking gas cap, but I love the way the AMI door looks, especially since my truck is just red and black...no chrome anywhere!

Don’t get wrong I like the way the AMI looks as well. And I’m sure it works just fine. I was actually thinking of it but also thinking about painting it to match my truck. Then the $$ started to add up in my head.
And you 100% correct can’t protect everything but we can make it a little harder for them
I was just stating my opinion for my needs.

These are sort of pointless. Anyone that makes an occupation or hobby out of stealing gas can break that lock in a second, or do more damage and cut under your truck.

Your better off leaving it unlocked. If they gonna steal gas they gonna steal gas. Dumbass kids will do more damage putting potatoes in your muffler or keying your car. Either way...its a larger risk to have this if someone wants to take your gas and cause more damage to your truck underside.

Kids are too busy looting playing fortnite and GTA or making tik tok videos.

I also use a Stant Gas cap. Works great with no leakage or EVAP Codes. I used the same one on my 2010 (bought around 2014 guessing) and transferred it to my 2020. Great for the price and I sure don't want anyone messing with my fuel.

I get the for and against but I want the gas cap locked for peace of mind and insurance purposes. If someone causes damage to get to my fuel system I can claim it easily through USAA with pictures and a police report.

Someone takes my stock cap off and contaminates the gas and ruins the engine I won't even know what happened and that will make an insurance claim much more difficult. Put a stant 10504 on it right after I got new 7 months ago and no issues with CELs.

Agreed, I'm not concerned as much about gas theft as I am some turd putting something into the tank that ruins the engine and/ or fuel system. It's easy to say "be nice and don't piss anyone off" but there are people who do crappy things to others just to do them. Also, I think everyone on here can admit that at one point in your life you have most likely pissed off someone without the intention of doing so. So for piece of mind I bought this gas cap last year for my 2020 Tundra and have not had one problem or engine code go off.....

So what locking cap do you use with a '21 Tundra?

And it worked? I have a '21 Tundra and mine is giving me first. I wonder if it matters how many clicks you give cap? I've been giving it one. Half the time I get engine light; the other half, no.

So, with millions of Tundras, there's not one locking gas cap that won't keep the CEL off? Seems incredible.

Put your original gas cap back if possible or go get a OEM one, then buy a locking gas door.

I don't use any locking gas caps. There really isn't any reason for one unless you are worried about someone putting something into your gas tank.

A previous pickup started getting louse gas mileage. I spent quite a bit on plugs, plug wires, points (yes, points), and a carb rebuild trying to get the mileage back up. One day, I stopped on the way home and filled up at a station a couple of blocks from home. The next morning I was down a quarter tank. Someone was siphoning gas during the night. A locking cap put the mileage back up to where it should be. A couple of weeks later, one of the neighborhood kids tried starting his little red Mustang. It sounded like crap. It clattered, banged, and would barely run. The kid had decided that since he couldn't tap the truck, he'd go for my wife's car. He'd siphoned a couple of gallons of diesel and tried it in his car. The tow truck took his car that afternoon and I figured that by the time he (or his Dad) paid for the repairs, and listened to the mechanics laugh, he'd learn his lesson. Nope, he did it again a couple of weeks later. Even worse, his Dad went out to start his work van one day and the same thing happened. We figured the kid had been given money to put gas in the van, had pocketed it, and had hit a few neighborhood cars during the night. The van was towed and he either avoided my wife's car, or stopped stealing gas. The family moved away a few months later. With the price of gas slowly rising, some kind of "keep the honest guy honest" lock will probably be in order. All you need to do is make it a little inconvenient. The fuel door with a tubular lock looks like the right way to go. No one wants to take the extra time to jimmy a door or hassle with a locking cap. They'll just go to the next car and try it.
