First and foremost, thank you for your service. My dad who just turned 70 is also a Marine (once a Marine, always a Marine). Great looking truck and dog. Welcome to Toyota and to this forum too. You won't regret your decision.

The two names that he mentions the most are RJ Hall and "Sugar Bear" which is obviously a nickname. He went through boot camp in Beaufort, SC and spent a lot of time in Hawaii as a radar technician. He was in school for engineering when he got his draft notice. He ignored his draft notice for the Army (played dumb) and enlisted in the Marines the same day that it came. He's always said that if he was going to serve he was going to do it on his terms and with the toughest bunch of guys this great country has to offer.

Very nice rig, I too switched from a Chevy Avalanche to a Tundra, a 2015 CM Limited. I had two Avalanches, a 2006 I ran up to 160,000 miles, spent prolly $5k in repairs to get her there and the Northeast salt was eating away the underneath. Got a 2012 Avalanche that I ran up to 53,000 miles, in that timeframe and under warranty had an entire 5.3L AFM engine replaced at 27k, a rear differential seal replaced at 35k and the engine started making funny noises again so traded it in on a Tundra that had more miles. You'll miss the smooth ride of the Avalanche but that's about it. Having a true truck bed is nice, not worrying about smells from the bed making its way into the cab (dead deer and snakes from firewood). Hope to get 200,000 miles on the Tundra.

I ran the Avalanche (2011) up to 115,000 with an extended warranty. The last week I had it I put $1000 in it and I saw no end in sight. My wife talked me into visiting the Toyota dealership and I still owe for that great insight, lol. I bought the 2016 1794 Edition with 20,000 miles and took the extended warranty (to 125,000 mi, bumper to bumper). Hope to get to 250,000 mi! lol
