    Story of my life. I'm gonna need a lot more welding practice before I take on a bumper let alone a hitch.

    I'll take a wooden bumper. That way we can use it as fire wood the next time I back into a rock in the middle of the night.

    Honestly just need a good mig welder go slow and make sure its got enough penetration for what ever thickness you use

    so the angle has no fuction, just the way it landed when I made sure the lower bar and upper bar had a good departure angle off obstacles. behind it and its hard to explain but basically its two 3/8 inch steel plates welded all around to the stock hitch plate and on the front the recovery point is welded to a 3./8 plate that is ten welded to those three sandwiched plates. its strong as frig ill say that... and the plate the recovery point is welded to is also welded all the way around to the top and bottom .120 wall 2" DOM

    I feel ya i got tired of dealing with subcontractors trying to rip me off during my reno, i did about 1/3 of the work myself to include 2200 sq ft of ceramic tile install and a bunch of other stuff. That alone saved me 15k in install cost .

    Just to get it back on topic, I'll take some wooden leaf packs too. Good enough for stage coaches, good enough for me.

    Leather actually. I was looking at an old Wells Fargo stagecoach yesterday. May see it again tomorrow. If I do, I'll take pics.

    You peaked my interest, so I had to look it up. Like this? So the wheels are solid with the frame and the cab is suspended by leather?

    So what is your weight? You have the same rear bumper I would like to eventually get. Do you know what the weight on that is?

    life is kinda yanking us around by the short hairs these days so i haven't had time to get over to the scale yet. as for the rear bumper, the base rear bumper (no swing outs) is 90. with the swing outs and spare, my guess would be around 215ish, give or take a bit. front bumper without the winch is 120ish.

    OK. Dang I guess I'll need to account for another 400 to 500lbs.:mad: :censored: I am still trying to locate someone local for leafs. In the mean time Matt at M.C.M. has my weights. I think he is working on it. Need to reach out to him again. Apparently a very busy boy. I am going to weigh again the first of May loaded and get those numbers to him. I'll post what I found out. I hope life settles down for you.

    I haven’t yet heard back from Deaver. Will try them again next week but I’m not keeping my hopes up. Once I get weighed, I’ll probably just go with Alcan and call it good.

    I have a dumb question (off road noob here), I keep hearing you guys talking about new spring issues. Specifically, I keep hearing how the springs were overloaded. My question is, if your springs can't handle your gear, why did you take out the stocks ones to begin with? Why loose the 1,500 payload?

    So the whole thing with stock leafs and the ability to hold bed weight is they flex less and have a very stiff spring rate. So going to a multi leaf pack like a deaver gives you more progressive spring rates, but balancing that with weight is tough, deaver has gotten closest with the U748's but they are not perfect.. so its a balancing act. if that makes sense. We want a more flexible suspension with better spring rate, but you sacrifice some bed weight capacity with doing that.

    Well put.
    @Ike74
    You can definitely get a pack that holds up the weight, but it is going to ride/perform like shit off road. Getting a balanced pack is going to be a hard find. If you are looking to get something, best route is custom. You would have to crunch #'s with load out/axle weight etc to find something to best accommodate your needs.
    Even then, I wouldn't say you are going to be 1 and done.
