It’s strange now being away from this forum for just a day and before had little care about online stuff as could go days/weeks without it. You people on here make it feel more family like than I thought it would be and after just one day I had to get back to see how things are going. Anyway, Had emergency yesterday afternoon and been offline since this around time yesterday. Now back to threads…..

This forum is a great community. I’m not a person that expected to stay around here at all but have actually made some good friends.

No, I have never made a sword or katana. Mostly I just want to make knives that are really useful but beautiful too.

this is the closest to it that I have come. It’s made from one of my tundra leaf springs after I replaced them with custom Alcan springs.
    There’s more to this story…

Yeah, it's like a pitchfork but much wider. Bigger than that guy's hands in some movie

So I was making a broadfork and lost track of how many tines I had, lol! About 2 weeks later I was forging something and there it was, laying by my forge, a slender pointy piece of 5160 spring steel about 20” long. What to do with this? say I to myself. A fine dagger you could make, I replied back!
    Now you know the story…

You have been good at keeping your knife wiped clean from tomato and onion juices, there’s no visible staining. I don’t do that well, myself, lol

I don't let it sit for a more than a few minutes before wiping it down after cutting acidic food. I wash it and give it a few swipes on my ceramic honing rod immediately after I'm done cooking. Other dishes can wait until after dinner, my knife is taken care of before I even set the table. LOL.

Yeah, I'm a bit anal retentive with my knives...

That’s awesome Aaron. You are coming up soon on 2 years. I do my pattern refresh process about every 8 to 10 months. I try not to be careless but I occasionally get hurried completing the meal.

Committed to two more so Ray could hopefully use the same wood. Then we will have four that match (handle material). That will be it for me for some time!!!:)

A lot of people like the patina that develops with use, and feel it adds character. You might let a few stains go for a while. If you zoom in on the before and after pictures you can see how far I let it go before the refresh. That’s my kitchen knife that I used for the pdf.

Got a whetstone because the ones I have are beat to death. Good thing I know how to use one, the instructions are hard to follow.

Finished this one today. Outer Damascus is 1084 & 15n20 with a little layer of nickel for the highlight. Center core is a piece of 1095 carbon steel. Scales are some native Oregon white oak that has been dyed green and stabilized. A very comfortable skinner.066D5789-46D5-40B5-A17D-F011C67EBC17.jpg9E2B471F-CA51-494D-BEFF-CD58378ACAA7.jpg6D7521E1-BC32-41E8-8436-A9E2722E5F2C.jpgD474E8C8-2269-4E64-A47C-5D56B134C7A9.jpg
