My next question woulda been “where the fuck did your friend get the knife from?” cuz either it’s hot or his friend is a retard.

Son is in 7th grade; and having met his friend, I can confirm the latter. He had two or three pocket knives, and decided for some reason to sell what I think was the best knife. The other two are basic CRKTs - nothing wrong with them, but son's friend is, ah, shall we say, a bit entitled, and sold what he *thought* was the cheapest knife.

Oh well, his loss. LOL My son even tried to tell him "This is a NICE knife...you sure you don't want it?"

@Kung Third possibility being that your son’s is a Chinese clone. Either way, you know where yours came from.
On a different note, being a 1/2 hour away from Shepherd Hills outlet is dangerous for me.

While you may be right, I honestly don't think so. It looks *EXACTLY* the same as the one I bought, and I bought mine directly from Benchmade. I looked it over very closely, and it's 100% identical. :)

Also - same...I don't go there often because I can't pay for both that AND Tundra stuff. LOL

Yes. Brian Brown Raptor. I ordered in May and arrived just before Christmas. Still breaking in as the detent was a bit strong for me out of the box, but continues to improve with use. I dig the complex grind on the saber.

My first attempt at knife making. I have woodworking tools and a little experience but basically zero forging skills or tools, so I started with a kit that came with a blade already made; I only had to make the scales. The next one I will get a metal blank that is already hardened so I just have to cut/grind out the blade. Then from there I will probably get a forge and start doing the complete thing; maybe get set up for a retirement hobby. There are just too many irons in the fire at this point in my life, pun intended.

Really nice. I'm headed toward that as a retirement hobby as well - been on my mind since I was a kid, just never had the time/equipment/space.

Not sure pre-hardened billet is going to be either available or your best bet for a starting point. You would not be able to cut it with a saw blade, and you'd go through way more belts/discs than would be practical. Although, full disclosure, I'm not a doctor but I play one on TV. However, Ray Taber @gosolo IS a doctor of knives, and a good guy, and will be able to lend better advice.

After spending my whole life sharpening knives with whatever cheap stone at Academy had a pretty package and cheap price, I decided my good EDC's deserved a good set of stones. It is a completely different experience, with completely different results, using the right sharpening equipment.

That’s a nice looking start! A kit is a great way to get involved and see how you like the process. As @1794TX
said, it’s tough working with hardened steel. Crude heat treating (annealing, hardening and tempering) can be done In a charcoal grill or even a hole in the backyard. Relatively good quality steel for a blade is also cheap to free. Think, old files and skillsaw blades. Everything done with power tools can be done by hand, it just takes longer, lol! For under 100$, you can get set up to go. A little right angle grinder with grinding and cut off wheels, a drill and a couple bits, some files and an assortment of emery paper, and a couple clamps.
PM me for more information and any questions. I’m glad to help you get started.

If it is going to a Broncos fan, I think a green/blue combo would look great.

Depending on how the season goes, maybe black and blue?
