Last day of deer season he managed to pop a small buck in the back yard last week. He said this year was really odd all around - between weather, animals not being in areas they usually are, cows grunting at him like a rutting bull would, getting chased down by a moose…

I need to ask him about the knife.

I haven’t in over 25 years. I would go into specialty cigar/pipe shops (not the Indian reservation smoke shop with a two-lane line for the drive thru) and some of the better ones would let you sample there in the shop. But, like I said, that was 25+ years ago…

Yes, that is the unfortunate situation nowadays.
You would probably do best to seek out a good cigar shop. Seems those were the places that also catered to the meerschaum pipe crowds over the glass pipe crowds.

Might have to venture closer to the PDX - looks like a decent number in city or down around the outskirts.

Venturing closer to PDX is like sitting down next to a pox ridden, toothless, bridge dwelling, dope dealing, sewer crawling, lover of gang bangers!

    Spyderco Shaman in cts-xhp steel
Benchmade bugout with carbon fiber aftermarket

The shaman is heavy and tough while the bugout is light in pocket you forget it's there.

I like both! I frequently carry a spyderco but have found the blade on it to be a little bit fragile.

not this spyderco. If you want beefy knife the shaman is right for you.
you can see the blade thickness better in this pic i just took. One thing sypderco does that is common is they put big finger choil's that make the knife easier to control. It eats up into the blade length though but comes in handy in most situations.
