I don’t think a discount is a thing in that world. I also found out the machine is the cheap part the stones are were they get you.

Yeah - I picked up the Hapstone that is very similar, and the stones are crazy. I need to get a couple more - I just started with the basic diamond set up through 1000, and now see that I want a 2000 and 4000 and a strop.

Yeah I basically bought all of them after discussing it with @Prostar 190 they did not have the 600 series so I’ll go back for that one. D2831087-39D8-4EC6-9B17-BD68115DEBE1.jpg

I love to occasionally do the tomato slice test. It would be nice to post, but can’t load videos. I also occasionally do the ‘hard old block of dry oak’ chop, whaling as hard as I can. Gotta test the work, now and then, right?

If you’re not chopping blocks of ice, road barriers, whiskey barrel rings, wooden ramrods and antlers.
Or stabbing fuel cans and paint cans are you really testing them?:D:p

I’ve watched all of the forged in fire shows. Fun to watch but like all “reality shows” ,lacking in the reality part, lol!
If someone hammered one of my knives into a cast iron differential I wouldn’t be surprised if it chipped, or broke, I’d EXPECT it!

I grind blade profiles based on my understanding of the intended use.
A cleaver is thick and convex. A sushi knife is extremely thin, hard, and fine. Even hunter/skinner knives are ‘user specific’. Decades ago I trapped coyotes and bobcats etc for fur. A very thin clip point worked best for caping out ears and eyelids. A general purpose skinner for the modern deer hunter would do well with a flat grind and an edge bevel close to 15*. Every knife is best for some tasks and not for others.

Me too! The episodes when they compete against the judges were my favorite.

I believe that it’s to validate the edges ability to maintain sharpness even after enduring abusive treatment.
