I'm fascinated with the Toyota T-100. These truck were meant to compete with American full size.truck, bit never really stood a chance as they were smaller and had.no v8 option. Toyota stepped up their game with the introduction of the extended cabs, the 5vzfe and once.again with the TRD supercharger. But the T-100 just.couldnt compete, despite being a.solid truck. Turns out it wouldn't be a complete failure, as it was truely ahead of it's time and created the midsize truck market. Plus it lead to the true full-size Tundra as well as the Tacoma's jump from mini truck to midsize truck. If I can find a 97 or 98 T-100 with a v6 and 5 speed I'd be all over it for my next project

So let's honor these rare trucks and post your pics! :worthless:

Here is my old T100, that I only had for a while. I bought it cheap and fixed a minor issue then flipped it for more than double what I payed for it.

Needs CV axles, a/c compressor, and camshaft position sensor

Replaced drive line since old one was done by mechanic who screwed up the double cardan joint, needs new u joints for 4wd shaft

Got new brakes pads n shoes, need rotors n drums, need time to put on

Cable for spare tire winch broke, bought new used one off eBay, I need to take bed off to put on, 4 bolts, only two can be accessed from bottom other 2 bed has to be removed, so my spare is in the bed

Oil changes every 3000 miles on time, Mobil 1 oil filter, Valvoline high mileage 10w-40

The T100 was the predecessor to the Tundra, not the Tacoma?

    My '96 4x4 SR5 V6 T100 was an awesome truck...
    I sold it about a year after buying my 2002 4x4 SR5 V8 Tundra.

The T100 preceded both technically, it's run was 93-98, Tacomas came out in 95.5 as the 95 model. Tundras came out in 99 as the 2000 model.

But the T-100 was a failed fullsize experiment. So yes it lead to the Tundra.
However it was dimensionally what we now call a midsize (midsize trucks weren't even a thing back then but compact aka mini and fullsize were). So it basically became the prototype for the midsize Tacomas as far as size and power to weight ratios etc.

The T-100 was designed and built by Hino, the heavy truck division of Toyota. As was the FJ Cruiser.

Here's mine just before I sold it. Kind of regret selling it, but I "needed" the V-8

Even though the extended cab T-100 and 1st gen access cab tundra are the same size, there's less room in the back of the tundra because the rear seats are thicker. I didn't know that before I stuffed my kids back there for a 6 hour drive :(

Well I suppose time-frame wise, that could be true.

I personally would consider the "Toyota Pickup" the predecessor to the Tacoma, as that was kind of the natural progression of the vehicle in terms of size/capacities. You are correct that the T100 was an experiment that ultimately led to the Tundra, but I think it's a stretch to say the T100 led to 3rd gen Tacoma. The T100 filled the midsize role until the introduction of the 1st gen Tundra. The Tacoma was the compact and the Tundra was midsize until Toyota made the jump to midsize for the Tacoma in 05 and full size for the Tundra in 07.

Regardless, the history of the trucks is neat, and I sure wish I could get my hands on an old Toyota Pickup with factory turbo. Those things were awesome.

The pickup absolutely is the predecessor of the first gen Tacoma.
I'm saying the 2nd and 3rd gen Tacomas are the spiritual successors of.the T100 and only have the Tacoma name.plate because of.its success and recognition vs the T100 name plate

The first gen Tundra was not a midsize.

I'll post the stats. Hold on.

Edit: some additional info for comparison.

    Width
    1st Gen Tacoma : 70.3″
    1st Gen T100 : 75.2"
    2nd Gen Tacoma : 74.7"
    3rd Gen Tacoma : 75.2"
    1st Gen Tundra : 79.3"

    Length
    1st Gen Tacoma AC/DC : 202.9″
    1st Gen T100 RCLB/AC : 209.1"
    2nd Gen Tacoma AC/DCSB : 208.1"
    3rd Gen Tacoma AC/DCSB : 212.3"
    1st Gen Tundra : 218.3 to 230.1″

    Curb Weight
    1st Gen Tacoma : 2,750 to 3,705 lbs
    1st Gen T100 : 3,320 to 4,040 lbs

I bought a 1997 four wheel drive, 5 speed manual, 3.4 liter new from the dealer. It's still in the driveway and is my daily driver. 263,000 miles and just keeps going.

Good point, I expect a non-rusty truck in the North or on the West coast would fetch much more than in Dallas.

That's kind of an old myth and it was mainly from people that did an actual "flush" after never doing it. I would do a series of drain+fills where you slowly introduce fresh ATF into the system. That's just me though.

I'd hate to insult the guy with such a low ball offer, since he's asking $7200. But this is the 2nd time I've seen him list the truck in 3 months and his price has come down only $600. So I figured $5k. is fair considering the mileage. But yeah at $3500 I'd be much happier with it either way, I'm gunna wait til 2020. May e.somethi g else will come along. I don't need 4wd on my 2nd vehicle since I'll be keeping my tundra. I just want a 5 speed manual and 5vzfe to supercharge and have fun in around town and commute to work in my tundra will become my back up vehicle for hauling/towing/off roading etc.

If it's a manual you should be fine doing it. Of it's auto just do a drain n fill.
