That's actually pretty amazing. My stock 2002 gets 15 combined city/highway. I'd love to get 18.

 

Same here. Doing the math with 4wd. Guessing $2k for both sets of diff gears. $2k for labor.

I’d have to run into a pile of cash (and have it knock me over) for that.

 

I will admit though I do baby my truck. I try to do slow accelerations and not speed on the freeway. The worst mileage I've gotten since I put 35s on it and re-geared was when I let my lead footed wife drive it for a week. She told me it was too much fun not to floor it every where she went.

 

Just bought a 2002 sr5 V8 4wd with 144k. Only modifications are new struts, flipped the white letters out and picked up these painted trd wheels for 60 bucks! What do y'all think I'm not the biggest fan of the wheel color but but I do like the
It's got some bad baked paint spots on the hood and top. Currently looking for the cheapest way possible to get them painted.

 

I actually like the wheel color in combination with your paint. I think it looks good. Ultimately you need to be happy with it though.

 

I posted in my intro thread, but here's my 1st Gen I sold to buy my '18.

2003 with 190k miles. Was a perfect truck, besides the room in the backseat, which is why I sold it.

No they are the stock SR5 flares that i Plastidip'd. (I put the TRD bed sticker on, it didn't have TRD flares). The Dip held up well. The sun took a toll on all my plastic trim so I decided to try it as a hail mary. It's probably over a year old in those pics, and I sold it shortly after.

 

What lift and tire size were you running??

 

33s on 17s. Donahoe Racing coilover maxed out with a Camburg upper arm. Stock rear, but had airbags for towing. The minimum psi lifted about half inch.

 

My 2001 100% stock except for the wheels and tires. about to hit 230,000 miles on it. Still does anything I ask of it no problem. Love the versatility of it.

Thank you! The tires are 265/60r18 so they’re the same height and width at the stock tire size I did that so I wouldn’t have to get the truck recalibrated. It does rub a little bit but only when someone sits in the passenger seat since the wheels have a -12 offset and the previous owner bumped into a pole pushing the bumper back just a little bit on the right side. You won’t even notice that the bumper is like that so I just leave it. On the other side there is no rubbing whatsoever so I’m sure if the bumper was perfect there would be no rubbing at all.

Like all the good work you have my one of my favorite trucks in the thread. I'm a fan of the bug deflector though!

 

Thanks! I had a hi pitch whistle at 40mph+ turns out it was the bug deflector so it had to go otherwise I would of left it.

 

Here's the 2000 tundra I picked up for $500 last week. It is the 4.7 L and has 212k miles. I'm in Vermont so rust eats the bodies up on these things. Luckily it had the frame recall done so the frame is mint. Once I get the bodywork sorted out she should be a good truck! So far I've replaced the starter, rear brake lines, metal fuel lines, power steering pump, transmission cooler, and all fluids. It's running pretty well now except when idling it surges a bit. I'll clean the throttle body out and maybe that'll fix it. For $500 it seems like a good deal!

For $500 that's pretty awesome. I'm amazed they would put a new frame on a truck that rough. Maybe the body damage happened after that?

Everyone here recommends cleaning the MAF sensor and replacing the PCV valve. That may help the idle issue.

Also, timing belts have to be done every 90k. FYI.

 

Bored at work and surfing today I came across your Youtube vids. Subscribing to see what you do with it (flatbed / replacement)? I missed if it was a 4x4 or not, but for $500 you stole it.

 

Ah very cool you found my YouTube! It is a 4x4, I'm not sure what to do with the rust yet, we'll see....

I'm digging the look of that tire and rim combo.

 

She looks great, I am really starting to dig white lately. Also, what truck box is that, I want one that sits flush with bed rails, but that one you have with the rails would be perfect.

I took a sawzall to the back railing so I could have the box sit flush with the back of the bed and the lid still open all the way.
