Should these plastic pieces be removed before installation of a shell ?

Where did you get the little TRD sticker that we see on the cap window?

Thanks for the thread. Gives me a good idea how a top might look on my forthcoming Tundra purchase.

I read a few comments about concerns while high speed wheeling. For what its worth... this is usually an install issue, and not a top issue. You have to ensure your installer sets it back a half inch or so, so it doesnt smash the cab. Most of these tops have enough compliance built in to allow it without causing fit/look issues. We ran one on our Raptor, and once we figured that out, no issues whatsoever (and I'm talking 80+mph over washboards and whoops in places like the Racetrack Playa, Ocotillo Wells, Anza Borrego...), nor when landing after flying thru the air...
    5.jpg

Also food for thought, for those concerned with security. ^^^ that shell was broken into a couple times; they'll smash the window(s) out and grab and go. I was determined to 'fix' that on my hauler...
    3.jpg
    6.jpg

Those are aluminum side panels instead of windows, painted to match with their security latches all purchased direct from Leer. More expensive to order this way, but I haven't had any issues with theft since. Something to consider...

Looks like an ARE Z series - their top of the line model. Had one on my 2006 Tundra. I wish I had gotten another one on my 2017 instead of the Leer XL.

Hey, guys, quick question, can these type of top be added on top of the tonneau cover (say Roll & Lock type)?

It could probably physically fit on top, but you wouldn’t be able to clamp it down.

There may be a way to run both but I am not sure. I know my shell is clamped to the bed rails and it doesn't leave any free space for the cover to roll up. Is the intention to use both the shell and cover to secure items inside without them being visible?

Thaz exactly right, sir! I have been holding back on the hard cover because I haven't seen any top that comes with internal cover. It would be perfect to have that option.

Does it work? I have seen people using their cell phone take pictures and then it show everything inside.

That makes sense. Always nice to have an added layer of protection. Depending on what you are trying to store back there, you could consider a Decked system. I've seen a few people in my area that run it with a shell. I believe the drawers lock too.

Have you thought about using a rollup tarp like on dump trailers? You could screw in the roller to the front of the cap and just make it latch to the tailgate or the last J hook

I have seen those, but they are a bit too shallow for my needs. Thanks for the info tho. I'll keep looking and keep y'all updated.

This is an undercover tonneau. I added rails to accommodate a Yakima rack that I already had. The key for the top is keyed to use the tundra key. I can take the top off in 5 mins. It's really light.

I have had 2 ARE overlands. First one I cheaped out. Second one I got lights, carpeted top and side window and am glad I did. I like it. No issues so far.

Can't see all of the shell with this one, but I thought it was a good picture from last week. I found a door ding free parking spot in Memphis between two highway support pillars.

That is the Z series cap, I added the Yakima track racks and the front window fold down. It was 3K installed and took a little over two months to get.

I had an ARE Z series cap with factory installed Yakima track on my 2006DC. When I went to get a cap for my 2017 CM Limited (October 2017), ARE was 8-10 weeks out. LEER was 17-21 days. I was impatient and went with the LEER. Should have waited for the ARE.

The quality of the LEER doesn't come close to the ARE. LEER leaked in the windows from the beginning. Dealer pulled them and resealed them. I don't think they leak any longer.
Fiberglass quality, interior carpet, and several other smaller items on the LEER don't touch the ARE quality. Had LEER install roof track on the LEER cap. Yakima and THULE track are the same. LEER sells and installed it as THULE track. ARE installed and sells it as Yakima.

I should have waited for the ARE.
    YMMV.

    Maybe someone can help:

    1. What are the bed/cap dimensions for a extended cab (6.5) bed? Maybe another truck's will fit?
    2. Are there any make/models of aluminum caps available for same?
    3. What are some of the costs seen to color match paint your caps?

    Thank you.

I'm hoping someone might have a pic of a very specific combo. Considering a 100XQ on a '19 TRD Sport, White, CM cab. I realize it's nearly identical to a Platinum or 1794, but with a scoop and more smoked/black accents, any insight would be great.

    Thanks!
