I almost had a used topper for the 3rd gen at a decent price. Someone beat me to it. It’s hard finding a used one for a decent price for something that will only be used 2-3 times a year.

Why and how would you only use it a few times a year?

I’ve got my diamondback on the majority of the year. There are a few trips planned where I’ll need additional room.

OK I am willing to admit that maybe I have an issue here?

This is indeed the third Cap that I have bought in the past 3 months for my 2015 Tundra and if nothing else it makes me wonder if it really is that rare or tough to find one for a RCLB after all!?!?!?

    Just kidding mostly.

So this one actually has the French Doors that the others did not but my former 2001 did and I can not seem to live without so of course I jumped on it and now might have 2 others to sell somehow myself!

This came off of a 2010 Tundra and is really close to a perfect fit though I have not really messed with it yet at all except for getting it rigged for the ride home, there are a few issues getting it mounted correctly but I am hopeful.
This one is also nastier than the last one and will take a little work to get it as clean as I want it and I am not sure that I will keep the toolboxes behind the side doors or not either?

But it was cheap and now I feel like I can move forward and try to start really working out of the new truck once I get this thing mounted up correctly!

This is my first cap, and it came with the truck. Have always wanted one but could never justify the price tag. Now that I have one, I am torn as I sometimes miss the versatility of an open bed! But the space is great for camping and the dogs.

I have been saving for a topper for my 2017 crew max pro. When I went to put my deposit on it, I was told that the front window only folds down and cannot be taken out. Is this true? Is there a brand that has a removable front window? I would like to be able to access the bed from the cab and possibly cool it with the AC. Also how is the seal in between the cab and the topper? I was looking at the ARE z model. I appreciate any input.

I believe all the Leer canopies can be optioned with a removable front window.

Snugtop has an option for a fold up front window, it is on gas struts. I have seen pics and it looks awesome. I have a snug top Rebel on order that I should have next week, I ordered the fold up front window, very excited for it.

Thanks for the input. When you get your top will you post picks of the inside, specifically the window setup?

I asked my dealer about this window and they said they didn't reccomend it because it tends to leak so I went with the fold down window. I hope you don't have any problems. Leer does make a removable window and I had one on my previous truck and I never had any leaks. I've only had my cap on my new truck for about a month now. But the only thing I ever used the removable feature on previous teuck was just to clean the windows. I anticipate only ever folding down my window on the current cap for the same reason.

My dealer said snug top specifically designed it for the crewmax tundra with the roll down back window in mind. I figure if it leaks either I can fix it or I can have them fix it under warranty. The small possibility of it leaking doesn't outweigh the benefit of having a fold up front window and therefor easy access to my cab. Plus I am going to do a rear seat delete anyways and probably put a fridge on the platform in the back where the backseat was.

Sounds like it will workout perfect for you. For my purposes I rather keep the interior dry. Just wanted to put the information that my dealer shared with me out there for anyone considering the fold up window.

Thinking about going from an SUV to pick up..... Tundra is on the short list.

One must will be a cap so we can carry our dogs in kennels.

What do you guys recommend that we order with a cap for the dogs health? I'm thinking ventilation including sliding front window is a must. Should I go with sliding side windows or a flip out window set up? We'll be spending a good amount of time traveling on interstates. Rain will inevitably happen.....

    Thanks

They have win doors with sliders in them now!
I think that may be the best really and have the most flexibility overall?
You can also get a roof vent like a Fantastic Fan to force positive airflow even when not moving to keep the pooches as cool as possible.

The Flip up windows that open completely on each side.
These make it easy to get big things in and out of the bed without having to climb in many times.
Add sliding windows on these and you get ventilation and ease of loading!

A couple other posts on that around the site. Supposedly the 14+ tailgate is a little thicker so you have to slide the cap back a bit or something.

Here is my ARE Z series camper in Voodoo blue. I added Yakima roof bars and a Rola basket to top. Also added some rod holders and LED lights to the inside of the cab.

I have the snugtop shell with folding window to access crewmax interior. It bangs around a bit when driving on rough roads. I think adding struts would alleviate it.
