Bumping this thread. In process of buying a house on 1 & 1/4 acres. What are everyone's recommendations for a rider?

I have a '95 John Deere GT275 bought new. Never have done anything except yearly oil change kit and blades. Still same deck and pullies. I finally replaced the deck belt last season and this thing has been used weekly to mow about an acre and a half. It has a 17hp Kawasaki engine. I highly recommend John Deere products that are bought at the John Deere stores, not the home depot versions.

I am pretty open on pricing. I don't need to go overkill. My main concern would be reliability. Speed, features, etc.. is less of a factor. It's mostly long flat straight lines with a low amount of obstacles. Of course a place to put my beer.

If you want quality, stay away from mowers at Lowe's, home Depot etc. Even though they sell husqvarna, John Deere and cub cadet they are not really made by them. They are cheap versions made by other companies that have permission to slap thier name on them. You have to go to a real John Deere, Husqvarna or Cub cadet store to get the real deal. And you'll be able to tell it's real by the difference in price.

I have ferris 2100z, nice ride with the suspension and cuts decent. I'd find a decent dealer in your area and stay away from the big box store junk. Stick with Ferris, Scag, Deere. Snapper pro is good too and probably best bang for buck. And go with a min 52" deck and atleast 25hp.

Check out lawnsite and do a search, a lot good info for home owner's or if you're in that line of work.

I have a 2005 Exmark 44" lazer Z, i love it. I originally was looking at bigger mowers, but honestly am glad i got the size i did. i put a operator controlled discharge chute on it, that is a awesome feature, i highly recommend it.

I agree. I'd rather save the space than the time so I am mostly looking at 42-44" mowers.

    Here's mine, with a 54" deck.
We have eXmarks at work and they are good too, but I like leg room, throttle, and the height adjustments on the deck, on the Hustler better. More comfortable to me.

I actually have a Power Reel Mower. Got this pic offline bc I'm lazy and didn't want to walk out to my shed, but its a 25 inch 7 blade reel. Cutting heights go from 1/4 to 1-1/2 inch and I usually cut my emerald zoysia at about 3/4 inch every 4 days.

Here is a link if anyone else likes Reel Mowers
