How do you like that Motorguide? I considered the XI5 but went with the old reliable Minnkota again.

Its great, I’m very happy with it. Not sure of the actual model number (it came with the boat, which I bought used), but it’s the 80 lb thrust model. The power on this thing is no joke, it moves the boat around like a champ. Plus it’s remote control operated, so the remote hangs from a lanyard on my neck and I can operate it from anywhere in the boat. I haven’t had any issues with it except I replaced the main power cord, and typical battery replacements over the last 6 years.

The remotes are great. I have a 80 lb myself. Powerful enough to troll without issue.

I'm also shopping for a 24V bow mount...Terrova vs Xi5. What swung you to the Minn Kota?

Wow! Nice job. Thats a very nice boat.
I have a Terrova 80 now. It’s been flawless for 5 years. I’m getting a new boat delivered in April. So, I had to decide how I wanted it outfitted.
I researched the XI5. Overall it seems to be solid but I read enough complaints that I wandered back to Minnkota.
Then I was between the Terrova and Ulterra. The Ulterra deploys and stows with the push of a button which seemed perfect for me. I have my trolling motor in and out a bunch of times throughout the day. But, if you research the Ulterra it can have a fair amount of issues with the auto function. People say with consistent maintenance they are pretty reliable. But, the one thing that killed me on that is there is NO manual override. You can manually get it up but not without taking a part of the the assembly apart. Once you do this it’s done. It has to go in for service and you have no TM until you have it repaired. Absolutely stupid IMO and could really put a person in a pinch on the water.
The Terrova is their workhorse and I’ve proven that with mine. Minnkota intergrates great with Hummingbird as well.

Nice carp. They are an absolute blast on the fly rod.

Thanks for the compliment & sharing your experience w/ the TMs! I was leaning towards a Terrova (and pairing with a Helix) but your endorsement (and Ulterra warning) may have sealed the deal! I just wish they'd go on sale already!

Carp are a blast on just about anything (waaay underrated/unappreciated fish) but I can imagine the excitement of seeing one sneak up on a surface presentation!

I don’t think you can go wrong with the Terrova. The spot lock is worth its weight in gold.

Thanks. It’s a bit much for Colorado. I’m able to retire right now but the wife has 3 more years to go. As soon as she retires we’ll be moving back to S Florida, it’ll serve me well there, can’t wait!

How do you like your alumacraft? What is your top speed? I ordered a custom Voyageur CS with a 115 Yamaha V-Max SHO about 6 months ago. The boat came in a month ago but still waiting for the motor. Witch should be in this week sometime. Hopefully it will be ready to go in the next two weeks or so. I'm upgrading from a 03 Crestliner super hawk .

Its been great. I bought it new in 2017 and other than a few issues I had to fix that the shop screwed up when they rigged it, I haven’t had a single issue with it. I’ve had it on Erie several times and its done well in 2-3 footers. I do wish I would have got the CS instead of the full windshield. It would be nice to have that little extra space on the front deck. My Etec is a 90HO (99 hp) and I run 39-40 mph with two big guys and gear. If I ever decide to get a bigger boat I’d definitely buy another Alumacraft.

That was my main reason for going with the cs. My old boat had the full windshield. In my opinion it's a waist of space, acks as a sail when on the water, and has worse mpg well towing. The Voyageur will be about a foot shorter and 10in narrower. But will be about 2000lb lighter. Where I live the lakes can drop a few hundred feet through out the year. Half of the year the paved ramps are way out of the water. Most of the time it's clif side dirt ramps. So I'm pretty excited about having a little smaller and way lighter boat. I'm happy to hear you have had a grate experience with your voyageur.
