Lack of bottom end torque comes to mind with the third gen. I haven’t driven a Maverick so I don’t know if it’s gutless or not.

I know this is a First Gen Tundra site so I'll be quick so we can get back to our favorite trucks.

I was looking to replace my daily driver wanting better MPG's and some utility. I drive ~350 miles a week for work, drive ~320 miles round trip to N Ga to work on my property (taking a weed eater, blower, chainsaw, backpack sprayer, pick-ax, cooler, etc.) once a month and drive to Lex Ky once every 6 or so weeks to spend time with my daughter, ~950 miles round trip. And now with my daughter in a house and not an apartment I like to take tools along to work on whatever needs working on.

The Maverick seemed to be exactly what I wanted (a Toyota version of the Maverick would be my first choice). I didn't like watching the gas hand drop when making these trips in the Tundra plus the Tundra is the one vehicle I will own in retirement (hoping to be in 6 or so years). So I ordered this Maverick in Aug '21; got a great deal on it in today's crazy market and waited my turn.

Below is a pic I took of where I am in this tank -
    22Oct22.jpg

I plan to buy a 5yr 100k mile warranty (I can get this for $50 over cost, about $650) as I'm not over confident I won't have any issues with the Ford.

Make no mistake, if I had to sell a car today it wouldn't be the Tundra. Still my pride and joy!

I appreciate all of the replies and will gladly answer any questions anyone may have.

No flaming from me. My nephew got one of the first ones. I’ve drive it an ridden in the back. It’s surprising how peppy it is and the amount of room. He got zero options on it and it is still a very decent vehicle for under 25k. I’d buy one if they were on the lots at a decent price.

Maybe not this wheel and tire setup but it seems theres some potential for these to look decent lowered. Bringing back the mini trucks.

If you lower it, it is no longer a truck. Put a couch or a fridge in the bed, or drive through a divot and your dragging your ass. I'm not sure if lowering a truck or "stancing" a car is worse, but I'd say the only thing worse than both is the pooping-dog-I-can-only-afford-half-a-lift-cali/carolina squat that some people do to their trucks.

Nah, that's what airbags are for.

And stancing is a hundred times worse than lowering or bagging. There are degrees of awesome to lowering and bagging; stancing is just all-around bullshit, horrible, never cool.

Agree to disagree. Lowering is for cars that go fast, and even then I'm not a fan. It just plain ruins a truck.

Ok,not gonna hate on ya. I think it would be interesting to see how it stacks up to a Tacoma reliability-wise.
FYI Toyota is supposedly coming out with a compact truck to rival the Maverick in 2024. More info coming in 1st quarter 2023.

There's a lot of choices in these uni-body small trucks now. Hyundai, Honda, Ford, and I think Toyota's version is based on the Rav platform. The neighbor across the street from me just bought a Ridgeline, and other than it was over 40k, it's a nice vehicle. Buy what works for the need and budget i think.

Honda doesn't have a compact truck though. Yes, the Ridgeline is unibody, but it is a midsize.

Take the Rav4 Prime version, add a small bed with swing out tailgate, increase the battery size a bit and give us a sweet speedy hybrid that can go 50 miles EV range or so and I'd buy it.

Eh. If it's setup right it's still usable. To each their own on style. Doesn't make it unusable.

I think he meant that's the Can Am Maverick SxS with a body kit. There are a few for different SxSs.

    knine body.

Everything is built so light (in a cheap way) you'd probably be better off trading for a new one every other year. They look goofy in a way that might be cool in 20 years. Im not a fan of the plastic, but im sure there will be plate bumpers for em, and that might be cool. The ecobeast is nothing but wins, dissapointed they dont have an ST with a clutch pedal, and not holding my breath. Maybe lincoln will build one with a 5.0...mark eleven?
