No worries. Better late then never. Just think about all the weight on a little baby donut up front from the engine. Best to place the donut in the rear and put the original rim up front.

i also feel dumb because I was like “wait a minute how do I put on two tires with one jack” and then I realized you can do one at a time:
    1. Jack up rear
    2. Take off back wheel
    3. Put spare on back
    4. Lower rear, raise front
    5. Take off front flat
    6. Put back wheel on front

Other option is to just pony up the cash for a matching rim.

yeah I may do that. I found a TRD rim for about $400 online

Edit: just ordered an extra rim, less than $500 shipped. I’m fine with that

I don’t know that there’s anything “wrong” with it, but it does say it’s only for temporary use. My concern was the offset. With a bigger tire on there I didn’t want to run into issues hitting the UCA in the front.

Im definitely over thinking though because for that to matter I’d have to get a flat and have the flat be on the front tire. Was it worth the extra $500? Eh maybe not. But I won’t even have to think about it anymore.

My thoughts are that if/when I flat, I'll put the spare on the rear with the steel wheel and the OEM Michelin. Then, get the flat repaired/replaced ASAP. I'm not sure what size tire the spare well will hold.

Good question, I haven’t tackled that one just yet. I’m going to measure the space against the bigger tires and see but just looking at the dimensions I don’t think a 295/70R18 is going to fit in there.

    Quite the dilemma if true

ive heard it does fit. You just have to either remove the guide brackets or bend them out of the way a bit.

If that’s the case I’ll be buying another cooper tire here shortly! I’ll pull the spare down and take a peek

Turns out I'm an idiot and bought a TRD wheel for my spare instead of the TRD Pro wheel. Seems to be mostly the same, offset the same. Probably just gonna keep it but that means I won't be doing 5-tire rotations :(

Last time I changed to a different tire size, the tire shop gave me an old takeoff of the same size for a spare. I don’t care if it’s almost bald... I’m only gonna use it to get back to where I can get it fixed/replaced.

I’ve got a ‘21 TRD Pro on the way, and dammit if this thread already has me shopping for tires. I’m going to try and talk the dealer into swapping my current 275/70 KO2s over so I can at least get a year or so more out of them before deciding.

I put 305’s on my ‘08 with a 3/1 level kit, and they rode like shit. Soft and spongy, and if I cornered even mildly hard, the ABS traction nannies would all freak out. After 55k and two years, I switched to the 275/70s and it’s been like driving a race car. Corners great, more throttle response, doesn’t feel “soft” driving it. So my only concern going to 295’s is I’ll be back in that nanny/spongy world again.

I wish I knew of a good AT tire in 285/70.

Casey, I'm having a different experience with my 295/70's. Ride, handling, cornering... all good on my'20 Pro. Factory wheels and no suspension changes. No traction control alarms. I'm running 40 psi F/R. I don't see much difference between the Falken Wildpeaks and the OEM Michelins. Heading into my first winter with them, I'm expecting good snow performance. Downsides.... they are significantly heavier (mine are E rated 10 ply) and may have a bit more noise at around town speed (30-40mph). Theoretically, they should be tougher and better traction in off road situations.

The factory Michelins are widely criticized for being too small in appearance and not aggressive enough. But, I ran them through two central Oregon winters on my previous SR5 and they performed great. Quiet, good road manners, and handled great. I can see why Toyota puts them on the Tundra. They are a quality tire, and I think they know most enthusiasts are going to swap them out pronto. No matter what they put on there from the factory, there will likely be much dissent.

    YMMV

Mine rubbed at full lock.. took out the 4 screws in the front fender and pushed the liner forward. Screwed back in to hold.

Are those Falken Wildpeaks? Spacers on the front? I'm running those same tires and no rub with full lock forward and reverse. I've heard that spacers cause rubbing.

I went with Cooper ST Maxx. 1" Bora spacers all around. Had the spacers with me from my old truck and we tried just the tires and I couldn't fit my pinky between the uca and sidewall. Decided to install them for that reason and looks of course!

I did have to wait about two weeks for them but that’s not too bad for these guys. Have you tried evasive motor sports? That is we’re I got my set from and they usually have a pretty good selection available

I ran a set of the factory Michelins on my '08 for about two years when I bought a set off a guy that had a 2015 and immediately swapped wheels and tires. I was due and looking for nicer rims and picked up the TRD rims with those tires for $300 less than I was looking at for just tires. They were a great tire...just a bit undersized when running a level kit, so after I hit 55k on them (I'm a high-mileage driver) and needed to swap, I moved over to the KO2s.

That's good to know on the Falken's. I'm really going to have to think about this one...I've got a guy interested in my Michelin take-offs if I do swap out right away.
