I use my hands all the time at work. Lately my left hand has been aching and now it's going numb. Starting at index finder and moving outward. Anyone have this problem and what have you done to help relieve this? Exercises, chiropractor?

Sure it's not a stroke or mild heart attack? Assume not if it's been happening for a while. Carpal tunnel?

Same thing has been happening to me for years and in my advancing old age it's gotten worse.
My brother's afflicted with the same issue and he's had some carpal tunnel procedures performed on his hands as well.
    I wish I knew the cure . . .

@YardBird This is probably due to all the typing over on the Word Association thread... My wrist bothered me several years ago. Went to an Ortho Dr. and he gave me a cortisone injection and been fine ever since.

Had some similar numbness in index finger and thumb, got painful in arm and was affecting sleep. Ended up being a pinched nerve in upper back, from poor posture. Saw a Neurologist, had to get some physical therapy to correct. Muscle relaxers are great!!!

Make sure your posture is good as well as your ergonomics in the workplace.

    Good Luck!

Are you diabetic? Neurologist was mentioned earlier... If continues progressing I'd go that route

I have had 2 surgeries on both hands, lots of shots and need 2 more surgeries on both hands...
    Try wrist splints, they help!

Reason number 3,200 I married a nurse. Numbness on left side is not a good sign. I'd move quickly to rule out some major stuff.

3” lift, black step bars, aftermarket wheels, LT305/55R20 was this way when I brought it.
I had a issue with my neck for years on the left side, as time past it got worse. Got to the point pain in my left hand and arm got to the point I had to leave work. Was not able to walk with out unreal pain at times, it was crazy over 4 years I ended up going to 26 different doctor after 2 shoulder surgery’s and a neck surgery. Most of the doctors told me there was nothing wrong, all of them just wanted to give me pain meds.(I was on tons of pain meds). Pain was still there and getting worse day by day. To the point of giving up then I was referred to a specialist in Dallas Texas at UT Southwest first test found a tumor in my neck at C-5. Had a 17 hour surgery have been pain free for a year now (have been off work 5 years) I am so ready to go back to work.
I am sure yours is not that bad, go get it checked out before it gets worse. Have a blessed day

Pretty sure it’s not heart attack. I’m thinking it’s bad posture and over use of the hand. Thinking time for an adjustment and better posture. I stand over a lowgrinder at times and have a tendacy to hunch my back too much. Beginning to think this is all related. Thanks for all the help and suggestions.

Make sure your ergonomics are good with the grinder. Betting there is much related data for this kind of equipment online. When not using grinder, shoulders back - chest out.

Looks like I have a case of carpal tunnel syndrome really sucks. Went and go a brace tonight and seems to be giving me some relief. Just ordered a everyday splint on Amazon.

It is carpel tunnel. the more you use your hands, the worse it gets. for me it was crimping pliers like hog ties.
There is not much at home fix.
My doctors recommend to measure electronic leakage of the nerves, likely a waste of money as the test was week and only showed what we already knew.
My right hand was way worse than my left. I had a carpel tunnel release done on the right about 10 years ago. the index and middle finger are fixed. the surgery is a simple 1" cut on your wrist and heals like nothing happened in 2 weeks. the success rate is 95%.
As with all surgery, you need to research and get the right doctor as the 5% is a big f'k up and likely results in worse rather than better.

Want a cheap fix? I have other seriously damaged or pinched nerves. Numb is nothing, how about feeling like your entire arm is in a deep fryer. That is a pinch uliner/elbow nerve. No narcotic works and no fix was in reason. after trying just about everything, i found something that works for many nerve related pains. Get Now brand eucalyptus oil and now brand grape seed oil. Both are on Amazon. mix 50/50.
In your case, apply 10 to 20 drops
(enough to wet your wrist) on the area where you would take your pulse. Rub it in vigorously for a minuet and around your whole wrist.
Forget about it but don't rub your eyes. in about 15 minuets the issue will ghost. what that means is you will not notice the pain/numbness is gone than later you may remember how bad it was. Repeat this every 3 to 4 hours for three days even though you may no longer have the issue. After that, use as needed. For me it is about every 2 months when the problem comes back.
This oil also works on sciatic nerve + shoulder and neck. many say it works on mussel pain as well.
I suspect that the way it works is the eucalyptus oil opens the pores and acts as a carrier for the grape seed oil. than the grape seed oil lubricates and insulates your nerves thus eliminating the misfire of the nerves.

Thanks for the great info. I will give this a shot. I use my hands everyday. I make no money if they are out of commission. I plan on seeing a chiropractor later this week for lower back issues. Can’t wait to see what breaks next.

I originally called it snake oil when I first had it shown to me. My arm pain was so intense i rolled on the ground and cried for hours every day. At first I said it was only coincidence that the pain went away with this oil or it must be a placebo that only works for those who believe. In the long run, over 20 people I know have had success with this. however with my elbow, I also keep it strait more now than before.

I had something similar happen when I was around 24. Working all the time, no girlfriend because of work, etc. Same sad story. I met my wife later that year and she cured my wrist and elbow issues rather quickly with massage.

Very interesting Dan, I will definitely try this on my left leg and lower back. I have nerve damage from a accident. Thanks for the information.

Sounds like carpal tunnel syndrome. I had it years ago, bi-lateral from turning wrenches full time. If you can get the surgery done that's the only true fix. Just my .02
