the handful or so times I came in under book time or well under book time I know I was being reckless.

it bothered me. A lot. I felt like I was compromising my core values. I left that industry after 14+ years because of it.

My question for dealer technicians is not coming over or under the book time, but how is the work quality controlled? Does someone independently check the work as it progresses or is the technician self checking his work?

Don't know. Could been either of the 2. Both the block and head are aluminum so both can warp.

Are you a metallurgy, is he a metallurgy? Did he send off the gasket to see of other places where the metal gaskets was getting attacked? Let me guess, NO. So how do you know it wasn't attacking other places and the part of less resistance is the one that gave out first?
And how did we go from a clickbait video to knowing what happened. It's clickbait. The guy no doubt knows his shit but it's the way he presented it and the title about how all of Toyotas UR V8 and others since he did show other gaskets, are all doomed because people don't do maintenance the right way or ahead of time. The title should have read something like, I found a problem with the V8 and lack of antifreeze maintenance.

I am pretty sure it will have holes closer the edges and some not. The antifreeze has to flow through the block and heads. My 350 Chevy, which I did the heads on recently has similar holes all over it. Some close to the combustion area. A head gasket usually goes it it weakest point. Chevys are know for blowing right in-between 2 cylinders. Or a water hole from rust on iron blocks. So any head gasket that has old antifreeze has a chance of blowing through it. He makes it seem like is an isolated specificToyota engine problem.
