Pony up some money to get a better trim......I dont have the fabric you complain about. Typical , buy the cheap trim and complain about the cheap stuff, rather than buying a more expensive trim with what you want. Make sure to wash you woke flag after winter

I don't blame you one bit. Awful service is a deal breaker 100% of the time.

Having said that, what other manufacturers are there though? They are all overpriced garbage now with service to match.

Had a new Tundra for over a month .
Wanted a second Gen lease return but not for the price of a new one .
Got a 3 gen that someone had purchased but pulled out of after waiting to long .
You know I felt the same say about the looks . BUT they are growing on me .
Originally was going yo colour match the grill but now not so sure .
I think you have to give everything at least a year before you change it .
    The interior . CHEAP.
    The engine FANTASTIC.
I honestly think you should turn a TUNDRA upside down to really see what you are buying.
RAMS are beautiful from the surface but don’t look under the skin.
Tundras are cheap on the exterior and expensive underneath. choose your poison.
Sorry guys the 3.5 is a better engine .
I also own a 1991 300D with a turbo that never failed . Is it more complicated than its predecessor yes. Less reliable NO.

I would be so pissed if I paid that much for a specialty car and have it in the shop all the time. Glad they purchased it back from you.

Ya, there was a mileage deductions so in the end I ended up paying about $6,000 to drive the car for 16 months, but I was happy with that. According to my attorney I probably could have fought that and got the full price back but you could tell Ford was playing the game of dragging it out a long as they could so I just went with it. Fortunately, in Arizona the manufacture also has to cover attorney fees up to a certain point. If I had fought it to get more, I would have started to exceed that amount and then have out of pocket costs.

To be objective and fair, let's give this engine a good decade before we say it's a better engine.
Other than that, I agree with the rest of your post. Toyota has always built great engines. Styling was never their thing. At least not in my mind. They can't make a good looking wheel to save their life, their body styling has always looked like it was either done by 80 yr old engineers, or a bunch of HS art students hopped up on Adderall. But taste is a matter of taste. It's what's underneath that's always mattered most to me.
I've never liked the idea of a turbo V6 in a full size truck. Not since Ford started doing it and still don't like it. If I HAD to buy one, I'd prefer that Toyota built it, but I'd still rather have a N/A V8 option with the new 10 SPD in the new Tundra. Even being a Toyota engine, I don't see a turbo V6 ever being a better engine than the 5.7 as far as longevity and reliability. More torque at lower rpm and better fuel economy is great, but that's not enough for me to call it a better engine.

What about if driven gently? Surely that will keep turbo not spoiled, hence improving long term damage minimalization?

Well yes I agree, but the fun is in knowing power is available if ever needed. Imagine the mpg's!

I wonder why everyone uses a turbo V6.
Why not try a smaller displacement V8 and slap a turbo on that?
Maybe it's been tried and didn't work out
    I dunno, I just never liked V6s.

Turbo v8 would sound way too good. You shall not be spoiled. Four cylinder for you!!!

I've heard, correct me if I'm wrong, that a turbo will not spool under light load. Most of my work, as a paleontologist results in driving oftentimes empty, as a commuter car or carrying a light load.

Yes it's wrong. Turbo will spool almost every time you're accelerating. You can prevent it from spooling up if you're accelerating very slow like a turtle... But in regular driving it will spool up every traffic light, every small hill etc

I assume you meant "wear" a motor out faster. Aren't there some pretty heavy duty cycle truck, marine, construction, and generation power plants that are turbo charged?

The turbo is always spinning if the engine is on. For it to spin fast enough to pressurize the intake (boost) it needs heat and exhaust volume. That’s typically when mashing the gas and asking the engine to burn a bunch of fuel. The more air you force into the engine, the more fuel you have to inject to burn with it. If you’re making power, you’re burning fuel. More power = more fuel burn. The only way to get good MPG’s is burn less fuel, so make less power. If boost = more fuel burn, ya gotta stay outta da boost. So why is a turbo more efficient? It’s not really. It’s cause it’s not a larger displacement V8. It’s a smaller displacement V6. Smaller and less cylinders = less fuel burnt at same RPM, but also less power. But when you need more power, stomp the gas and let er rip.

understandable to be upset about poor product, but what company is better. unless you go up to the F250 or 2500 sizes there are lots of issues with quality
i do wish they kept the 5.7 though
