LANE KEEP ASSIST/Centering - do you use it?

So... Nobody ever talks about the elephant in the room. Some questions to start the discussion!

    1. Whats your opinion about it? Ok or terrible?

    2. Do you use Lance keep assist? (one that bumps you into the lane if you go over the lane)

    3. Do you use Lane Centering? (one that keeps your truck in center of the lane)

3.1 How about adaptive cruise control?

    4. Do you use Lane Centering on twisty roads? How twisty?

    5. How does Tundra Lane Centering compare to your other cars with this feature?

I personally love it. I think it does a decent job, and hope that they keep improving it. I definitely need to watch it at all times and take over control on tighter-ish turns.

My wife's GLE Mercedes seems to navigate slightly sharper turns a little bit better than Tundra, and doesn't need you to touch steering wheel for 1 min vs Tundra every 20 seconds :( but Tundra has a much smoother distance cruise control...

its annoying, but I will use it on long road trips, its just annoying to get steering wheel vibrations since the cameras can get tricked by all sorts of shit on the road - ALL THE TIME, I will say its less invasive then my accord. The following distance cc is not very good, it activates brakes way to cautiously, imo again vs my accord

Hey, maybe the active cruise control needs to be calibrated on your Tundra? Mine follows distance precisely and brakes/accelerates smoother than I can!

could be, I see my truck braking when cars arent actually in my lane yet, and im like why we slowing down, that guy is still in left/right lanes.

And I say its aggressive, cuz it actually brakes, the honda kinda coasts a little before applying brakes

I use the radar cruise all the time. But lane centering I keep off and switch it on for short periods.

I use all of these options when driving on freeway to and from work. Yes lane keeping assist is a bit slow to react on sharper turns but overall it works great, very happy with truck so far.

The lane assist bugs me. At the exact milli second my brain says I close to the line and initiates a steering correction the trunk does it's steering bump. Ends in an over correction that I then have to correct.

Each time happens wife asks if the something is wrong with the truck

I use the adaptive cruise control it seems to work pretty well.
I turned the lane centering and lane assist off. I find then both exceptionally irritating. The lane centering just overcorrects constantly and pinballs you back and forth. It honestly reminds me of a barely stable PID controller that would earn a C in an undergraduate engineering lab. Definitely doesn't lessen fatigue on long drives.

We’re do you find the on/off controls for these features. Do you have to turn off every time you start the truck, or will they stay once set?

Tha adaptive cruise will have to be set to standard cruise each time I believe. You just hold down the cruise control button until it give you a message.

The lane centering and assist is turned off by holding down the lane centering/assist button until the dash icon disappears. It might display a message, I can't remember. It stays off until you turn it back on with that button. Both buttons are on the steering wheel on the right side.

Thought I would hate the cruise but I thought it was great on recent road trip. Still getting used to the lane assist warning squawking at me when I’m not using my blinkers all the time.

Maybe there is something wrong with mine, but it just bounces from edge of lane to edge of lane.

I use it all regularly. LTA works well on good roads but struggles in construction zones or worn out roads that aren’t well painted.

I think Tesla did it better at one point as I would get them as loaners, but them moving away from radars is causing them some scary AF issues that have had me lose all confidence in the system.

I’ll use adaptive cruise all the time and it is great in Houston traffic.

I like using adaptive cruise, but I don’t care for the lane centering and assist, maybe at some point I’ll find it useful, but my Tundra tracks just fine :)

I don't use it. I'm not a fan of it since it doesn't work very well on our trash roads up north here. It also likes to follow off ramps then over correct back into the lane.

I use the adaptive cruise control all the time (I set it at the middle distance, and it seems to do a good job of keeping me close enough that most normal people don't jump in front of me. (at 3, they all seem to think there's enough room to jump in) ) and at the shortest distance, it seems to do more braking then is necessary to keep the right distance. But, tried to use the lane centering/lane assist features, and just couldn't seem to get it adjusted to work well. How are people adjusting the sensitivity to get it to work well enough to be tolerable?

I've got similar settings/findings on my audi ... I rarely use the lane centering there either, but always use the adaptive cruise control. When I do use the lane centering, most of the time, it works fine, but... if there are pull offs or other unusual lane entrances/exits... it sometimes doesn't know how to handle traffic coming /going in/out of those, and hits the brakes thinking the car is going to come back in our lane. Which is frustrating and why I don't use it much. I have used it successfully on long trips on interstates, but couldn't seem to get the Tundra's to do the same on Interstate 10 from Houston to FL - But, I might not have had the right setups. I'll have to play with it some more.

Yes, it may need to be re calibrated, it's very good with exception of medium turns.

For lane centering to work it needs to clearly see the lane markings on the road, and road can't be too curvy - any turns above average and it won't be able to follow those.

If the road has clear lane markings and lane Centering isn't working for you then dealership may need to re calibrate it. Also make sure you actually have Lane Centering turned on by pressing the button on the steering wheel (otherwise only lane keep assist is on and it won't keep truck in center of the lane)

I love the adaptive cruise control, but LCA (lane tracing) in my opinion ping pongs between the lines too much, it’s not a huge sensation but for passengers that are more sensitive to motion, it can make them nauseous. I’m not sensitive at all, but it’s super annoying. The radar cruise though, is fantastic and use all the time. I also turned off that darn coffee break notification under LCA.

My others cars are Teslas, and comparatively the LCA version is spot on centered without any ping ponging and can handle all variations of curves. However, I didn’t buy my Tundra seeking those features at all, and really the radar cruise makes driving a breeze.

I use it mostly on the interstate and it seems to do fine. It dosent read the bad or worn lines on the road like said above. It can also ping pong you in between the lines when you and the truck are trying to correct, but otherwise i try to use it.

I turn it off when city driving because like others mentioned it could be jumpy.

Highway driving I use it because it pretty much can drive itself comfortably on straightaway when combined with adaptive cruise control.

    Also just an FYI--

Got this message the other day. After about 15 minutes of driving, another screen showed up and showed me exactly which sensors were blocked In the front.

I went out, scrapped the ice off, and everything was back to normal.

So my truck does the lane tracing/Centering really well, except when turns get above average. It almost never bounces from side to side.

I'm assuming that everyone else's truck should be doing Lane Centering just as well, and if it's not then maybe dealer recalibration can fix this?

This is my experience as well. I do think the adaptive cruise could coast a little before applying brakes when its approaching a car in front of you.

The only thing I use (which I really like) is the adaptive cruise control. The "lane keep assist" is horrible in these trucks in my opinion (not a hater; love my truck but hate this feature). My wife has a '22 Wilderness Outback with this feature, and it is a lot smoother. I felt like I was constantly fighting the steering wheel in the Tundra when I tried it out.
