The left lane should be an underground tunnel with a mag-lev sled that your vehicle rides on at 200mph.
For people who have actual shit to do and somewhere to be.
Either that, or just have big mail tubes that we travel in.

Might be unpopular opinion, but why not leave few minutes early and go slower. You will save some gas and transmission won't have to work as hard. Also, your nerves will be calmer=longer life.:hattip:

I'm a firm believer that suffering makes you wiser.
Whenever someone stubs their tow, gets something in their eye, burns their hand, etc., I always ask, "feel smarter?"
But with the state of people's psyche and the culture these days, I'm not sure that much will help smarten people up.
Everyone is in their own little bubble and nothing applies to them.

I hypermile all the time. But if someone thinks they're gonna mess with my momentum, i'll touch bumpers & draft.

I look forward to the short slow vehicle 3rd lanes on 2 lane highways. That's where I do most of my passing.

The end result is the same: you wind up sharing the road with assholes anyway. I prefer to do my own thing and will moderate my speed to stay away from everyone. I am NOT a pack animal, and I do not feel safer in any crowd. The further away I can stay from other people, the safer I am from the dumbasses. If that means dropping a couple mph and hanging out in the right lane, I do that. Or I'll run 100 or more to keep up with the left lane line until the slower traffic is cleared and I find a nice gap to settle into. Or anything in between. Depends on what I sense about the people who are around me and the situation. I also quite frequently bail off the intersrate when everyone is being total retards and take a relaxing, scenic cruise through the country. Might add a couple hours, but it's usually well worth it.

I wish I had a scenic option. I'd gladly add 15 min to a 30 min commute if there was a scenic, easy going route. Work is directly east of home. I have 3 options: loop around north on 290, loop around south on 190, or straight across on what used to be the expressway but they reduced half of it to 30mph. They all take the same time and are all horrible. And all the main roads aren't a direct route and they're more congested than the thruways, so they double the commute time. And once you get caught up in the 830 traffic (the 9-5 people are the worst people on the planet), you might as well just pull over until 9:30, or just go ahead and smash your truck into something and get it over with.
The only relief is if I leave before 6:30 am and before 3pm.
I miss when everyone had the Egyptian curse and I was still going to work. Roads were empty and it was just me and maybe 4 people at work all day.
    There's just too many people.

We are all overthinking it, gang. Driving is driving. Someone going slower? Just take it easy. I'll spare you the mathology, you won't win a lot of time by blasting through the freeway and then standing on a red light. To gain any considerable headway, you will need to go too fast, beyond any safe operating speeds, putting everyone in danger.

When I commuted to work there was really only one way in and back. It was a 4 lane road (2 each way through 4 towns) and it was nuts in the afternoon with all the tired pissed off commuters. For a week after I blew up my streetbike I rode my plated dirtbike (an xr400) into work. 3rd day instead of taking the main road home, I found a slightly longer (5 minutes?) 2 lane backroads way home. That forever changed my commute. The ride in was still the main road, but the ride home was always the alternate route.

When I rode my bike to work, people would get pissed when I’d roll thru, or straight blast thru a red light(safely looking both ways) but I’d always get to wave at them as I passed them at the next red light.

Are you my twin? That’s me to a tee.

I left home for a “road trip” at 3:00 AM last week, only one asshole in the first 6 hours of driving, or should I say, only one OTHER asshole. :D Driving through the night and in the early morning is so much better. By the time I got home at 9:45 PM and nearly 1500 Km later, the count was closer to 6 (other) assholes per hour.
