Thats some cool gear! I thought when you disconnected the line from the wheel well with the other end still connected to the tire is was going to start hissing out pressure. Must have a check valve in the fitting?

yeah, after looking through the kit, i probably could have sourced all the parts for half the cost. The system is designed to work with an air compressor and has a blow off valve you set to the desired tire pressure. That way you can connect the whips, flip on the compressor and walk away, drink a beer, throw rocks at passing rented F150s. The valve will burp off excess pressure once it hits your set PSI. That stick guy is hung like a snake too.

Had to commemorate transformation Tuesday properly. Still can’t thank Rob Stringer and his team enough for bringing our vision to life. We spent a loooooong time in white fenders trying to decide exactly how to make her look right and still unique.

Ultimately we decided on an homage to Ivan Stewart’s Toyota race trucks from the 80s. Lisa and I both grew up watching his Baja and Stadium racing, and wanted to go with those iconic stripes. The yellow, orange and red didn’t quite work for us on the MGM base color, and we didn’t want to half ass the whole thing. So after various inspirations and weeks of research and terrible mock ups, we spent an hour with Rob sifting through Toyota paint variant decks.

We looked at other manufacturers colors too, but again, wanted to keep in the Toyota family and make a proper nod to the Ironman and his team. With colors chosen, we then spent an hour or two with Patrick the painter who paints and lined up the stripes. The man is an artist and was able to take into account the fact we wanted to emphasize the bulges and curves of the fender, but still have straight stripes. The turned out perfect, and the truck still has a mean face from the front.

The grille and surround and front bumper caps were all painted to match, and even the Toyota symbol is matched while the insert is blacked out for some contrast.

So here she is, all dressed up and everywhere to go. Classy enough to valet at the club in Scottsdale, and capable enough to take on the rocks in Moab.

I have wanted to do the Ivan red, yellow and orange stripes for the last couple of years but the wife wasn't digging it- she didn't grow up watching the same TV I did. So my fenders are still un-painted.
    Looks good man.

Damn Kevin the paint job looks awesome! You and Lisa have done such a nice job on it!
I was curious why you haven’t done bumpers?

    Hahahahah!!!

    And ProComp... :bananadead:

Thanks man! We haven’t changed bumpers because we haven’t found one we like better than stock. The stock looks great (more refined or ‘finished’ than a tube bumper) and is pretty light (compared to a plate steel bumper) The functionality of tube is awesome and the look of plate is nice, but the downside of each means we’ve decided to keep stock for now.

We did trim the backside of the front bumper to make room for the 37s, and we have a plan to move the rear bumper some and relocate the stock hitch in order to improve departure angle.

We’re always looking, so if you have any thoughts or suggestions on a lightweight bumper that looks good, we’d love to hear it.

If you like plate the @pelfreybilt front bumper is very nice.
I like the look of pre-runner bumpers so I may go with the @sdhq_offroad front bumper. Still haven’t decided on anything yet though.

    Kevin,

Let me know if you do decide to do something different. I don't know if you like the SDHQ pre-runner bumper but I might be selling mine. It hasn't been off-road yet, heck the truck hasn't even been out of the shop except to drive it over to get the bed linexed lol. Like everything on my build, I changed my mind about stuff all too often. Such is the case with my front bumper, I'm really weird like that. I decide I really want something and I have to have it and 6 months later I decide I really don't. I guess thats why my daily driver has had 4 different sets of wheels and tires on it over the last the year and a half lol.. it's a very expensive quirk or should I say desease I have. Anyway it's freshly powder coated including all the hardware and skids, I would give you a heck of a deal. I'm on the fence but if your interested that might be enough to push me over the edge. Let me know if you are and I'll shoot you some pics.

    Thanks guys!
We like the functionality and lightness of the tube bumpers like the sdhq one, but it leaves a lot of the underside of the truck visible.

The plate bumpers look nice (or at least they cover more of the inner workings) but are typically heavy as fuck.

So far the only one that comes close is the slim one from SSO. It basically replaces the middle plastic piece with steel and you can mount a winch in it. Plus it has two recovery points.

Or the sdhq hidden winch mount.

We also like the P&P version a lot, but they seem like a pain in the ass to deal with. We tried to order their skids like a year ago and it just didn’t work out. Now I read about all kinds of customer service and quality issues.

Hold the Line! If you are not holding the line, abandon your ship. Destruction is inevitable without more to hold the line!
So that is the trick, convince your wife that the "Highly modified overland Rig" is her vehicle. Very Clever...
