So what provides the limit point? Not arguing, just trying to learn.

As most OEM fitment shocks(non drop bracket)for IFS, are developed around a range of motion ratios of about 1.8-2.0 (application dependent of course. The oem bump stop will provide the up travel limit during compression.

Granted this assumes that the overall shock length has not been extended with spacers ”shims” on-top of the shock as this lengthens the shocks compressed length and may result in the shock assembly bottoming out before it can reach the vehicles limiting device, in this case the hard rubber bumpstop, potentially causing significant damage to the coilover.

Well, then what you are saying is that OP simply hasn't hit enough frequent big bumps to cause bump stop contact marks. Correct? Also the geometry and factory bump stop locations are based on factory coilover length and the King length is also same or close. Correct?

OP, have you inquired with say Toytec to verify the bump stops issue. Not saying anyone is wrong, just looking for a known source of reliable information. I mean I certainly am no guru, just trying to use what I think is correct and maybe Jason is in fact correct and I want to believe him. But without knowing all the specs and having more experience I can't judge my opinion or his with 100% confidence. So, I think you should inquire with a third source who does this shit for a living. Just my two cents.

overall length is increased, but unlike the spacer style of lift, the amount of shock stroke length is also increased. Negating the need for bump stop extension.

Increasing shock length without increasing upward shock stroke length, requires a bump stop extension to prevent the shock piston assembly from impacting the top cap. The bump stop, stops (in our case) the lower control arm from any more upwards travel. Stopping the upwards travel, stops the shock shaft and piston assembly from further advancing upwards in the shock assembly, preventing damage, bottoming out…keep in mind the bumpstop is not used only to protect the shocks, but govern pretty much the entire unspung assembly.

Yeah I'll definitely see a pro soon. I have had it in two different mechanics but nothing specifically about this.

I'm going to mount my go pro under there soon and see if I can't get us any more info for this armchair mechanic game.

Well said, thanks for providing some accurate info here!!:thumbsup:

The direct fit OEM shocks (King has standard length and extended travel) share the same compressed lengths and are similar to factory compressed lengths but provide more extended travel.

I doubt the shocks have anything to do with your clunk noise. If its convenient, you can always check the nitrogen level in the shocks. They should be at 150spi fully extended.

King are also known to use pretty poor lower rod end bearings. You might want to see if there is any movement in LCA when you have it up and off its weight. I had a similar issue with some kings on another vehicle.
