THIS! When my shocks get rebuilt I’ll slap on some TC UCA’s and make OEM Kings ext travel.

I don’t think 3.0’s fit with stock uca? so you will by default be able to use extended travel

@LBGlossWorks, badass! You got rears too? How much did you get them for? Is it making contact with your tie rods when turning?

I have no tie rods issue at full lock, I paid retail and I’m running King 2.5 shock in rear.

As opposed to thinking that the 3.0s are extended, think instead that they are not limited, but can be by adding spacers.

Definitely internal. It has to limit the extension, so that can only be done on the shaft internally.

    I contacted King directly

“In order to make them the ( EXT ) you will need a different shaft. The shaft part number you need is 25013-008 along with a 25057-003 shaft spacer”

That’s interesting, my King OEMs are in Garden Grove right now and the tech I talked to said easy hour labor no parts. I don’t think the shaft gets swapped. I was in the building. Reg OEM to Ext....

On King OEM shock kits, they add a spacer on the shaft to limit the length. If you change upper control arms to a set that can handle the extra length, you can have the spacer removed. I’ll be doing that soon.

This is it - no shaft replace, just a 1/4" spacer removed. 1/2" extra wheel travel. But enough to need aftermarket UCAs...which are good anyway.

The entirety of the thread is referring to the OEM kit. I don’t think it applies to 3.0. I don’t think there’s a 3.0 OEM kit.

    Couple things to clear up.

-25001-143 King Coilover cannot be converted to a 25001-143-EXT. The EXT uses a different shaft and spacer <-- this is directly from our King rep about a year ago.
-The 9" to 12" thing, no clue where those numbers are coming from. A 25001-143 coilover has about 7.186" of travel. This puts the wheel travel at about 10.56", extended travel (7.7" travel) pushes it to about 11.32" of wheel travel

It seems the spacer must be 1.5”. I’ll be taking mine apart over Christmas break.

Anyway you guys know if you can tell the difference externally between extended vs non-extended because I think it's all internal. I am looking to get some used shocks but its hard to justify if the seller is telling me the truth or not about extended vs not.

The non extended version have a collar around the shaft inside the body right? Without a serial number or marking outside you could only tell by measuring full extended length

You’d have to measure the eye to eye length, but it will be a little bit of a challenge since you’re dealing with the upper eye in the middle of the mount.

Like mentioned above, you would need to measure the shock at full extension. You can reference the diagram below to help with where you need to measure. Then just compare those fully extended dimensions to 25.7" (this is the -EXT lengths) Its important to be very accurate with your measurements since none -EXT is 25.3"
