Hello, my name is Chris and I currently do not own a Tundra but my last was a 2012. I am looking to get a new one but waiting on the bugs to get worked out.

I currently have Forrester as I traded my 2012 Tundra in 2021 for the Forrester. They wanted my truck really bad so I traded. It was 9 years old with 85k miles and I got 22k trade-in. I think I only paid 28k for it.

Anyway, my Wife doesn't like my Subaru and wants me to get another truck so I am starting the process. I know the new motors are an issue and I am doing my research now as to what I should do. I know the people here are up to date with all the issues going on, so I am back and hopefully here for a while.

Thanks for all the info and help in advance.

LA is a great place. I was born in Mississippi and raised in Arkansas, can't get much lower than that. Cheers

Welcome from N. FL. What will you be using the truck for? What features or capabilities are important to you?

Your wife is a wise woman and should be revered as a queen.

If you have concerns about the TT V6 3rd Gens you could always get a recent offering of the proven and bulletproof 5.7 V8 persuasion.

    I didn't want a 3rd Gen so I found a CPO '19 w/20K miles and (between fillups) I'm quite happy with it.

I have thought about exactly that. I am 61 so I just might have this one forever so new is probably the direction I will go. Although, the certified has the 100k warranty. Decisions decisions.

If I were facing this decision, I would choose a well-maintained 2.5 gen with the appropriate trim level to meet my gadget/comfort expectations. The 3rd gens are too new for my taste, especially compared with the legendary reliability of the previous generation. For me, that worked out to be a 21 DC SR5 with 88k miles and dealer maintenance like clockwork. I expect this to be my last truck as well, and I'm not as close to retirement as you are.

    Interesting coincidence... I'm also 61.

I'm thinking I'll probably have this one till we get those damn flying cars we were promised. I tend to keep my Toyota's for awhile, and ICE's will probably be outlawed by the time I'm ready to replace this one.

I've never bought a new car in my life! Used to be 'cuz I was poor, but now I iust don't wanna be the one to take the depreciation hit. I'm also leery of anything in the first couple years after a MAJOR design change.

If I remember correctly, the warranty on my CPO was better than on a new one.

Well, I am disabled and just bump around fishing mostly. I have had a couple back surgeries and the comfort I had with my 2012 sr5 was very nice. way better than the forester or even my wife's Highlander.

Welcome from LA (Louisiana) too. Good luck finding what you want, I haven't had any complaints with my 2018. That was the first year of just 'a bit' of gadgetry like radar cruise. I've found it all easy to turn off as needed and I really do like the 5.7. The longevity of these things is not over-rated, but you probably know that from the 2012 experience.

Yes sir, I didn't have any issues with the 2012, they wanted it and offered me 22K trade and I couldn't pass it up.

You could have passed it up and still been happy with your truck. Good luck on your new truck search. You don’t have to buy new as others have mentioned. A used 20-21 would be a great option. As well. They’re only new for a few minutes anyway….
