I mean, if you're going to get the Ram at least get a Power Wagon.

I will still say technology is amazing. Every time I ride in my coworkers Tesla I crap my pants how awesome it is inside.

Wouldn’t touch a Chrysler product with a 10 foot pole.

Today, I traded my 2012 RAM for a 2015 Tundra! Why? Because the Hemi engine is bad news! When my RAM hit 100k, things went down hill from there. Fuel pump went bad. $900 repair. 5 months later, had this major ticking on cold start ups. It would go away after about 1 minute or two. Then run and sound just fine. Turned out, 2 of the exhaust manifold bolts broke on the drivers side. After lots of research, found out this is a common problem with Hemi's. The bolts are crap and break easily. My step dad also has a RAM. He replaced his exhaust manifold bolts just 3 weeks ago with 78k miles on his truck. He too has has the "hemi tick."

There went another $900 on the manifold bolts. And at the same time, found out I needed to replace upper and lower ball joints on both sides. That was in May of this year. Then about 1.5 months ago, the hemi developed another ticking noise. This time, it was more serious. It didn't go away. No one could tell me what it was. All they could tell me was it appeared to be coming front the top of the engine, but....it also might just be deeper in the engine. So we tried several things. 1) Decided to de-sludge it. Put a solvent in the oil, drove it around for 5-8 miles, brought it back, drained the oil, removed the oil filter and let it sit for an hour draining. Then put new oil in it, new filter and an oil treatment in it. Was told to drive it around for a day or two to see if the ticking stopped. After 200 miles of driving it, the ticking was still there and actually louder than before we did the de-sludge. So then they said, well let's try a thicker oil. If that works, then you have a couple of failed lifers. If the noise doesn't go away, then it's probably deeper in the engine. They told me the only way to really know what it was, was to open up the engine and see what all was bad.

After reading on the RAM forums about all of this, I learned that Hemi engines are famous for the "hemi tick". The dealer will tell you it's normal. Guys that have the hemi tick and the issues, will tell you no....it's lifters or cam or pistons. Bottom line...if you want to get a hemi, be prepared for all kinds of issues with the hemi engine. In my case, to replace lifters and cam, it would cost around 3000-4500. If the motor needed to be replaced, I was looking at 8000-10000. Needless to say, I took it to a dodge dealer today and traded it for a used Tundra. For me, I will never own another hemi again. And...funny thing is, when I took it to the dodge dealer today, it was ticking and making the noise. The dodge dealer didn't even say a word about it. Just took the trade and gave me what I felt was a good deal.

the uaw and gm bailout are 2 separate issues. when gm was losing there ass and was being bailed out the workers gave up raises and other benefits, now after a 38billion profit year the workers said ok how about our raises and stuff we passed on to help out the company and gm gave them the middle finger. not liking gm is fine but leave the worker out of it there getting screwed too.

ohh and gm paid back every penny they borrowed in the bailout just another fyi.

i owned 1 dodge ram with a hemi granted it was a 2005 i bought it brand new. i put a cold air intake and the engine would ping like crazy dealer said its running to lean, i said its a mopar air intake i have put them on all my cars before never had a lean condition is not that what the computer is suppose to adjust? they could not answer as to why. i ended up trading it in after a year. small issue but super weird i just felt something on that truck was not right. my brother has a brand new 2019 ram rebel interior is gorgeous huge screen switches everyplace, like the bat mobile. but like others said that shit gonna stop working one day. i have all the tech i need in my tundra.

My 07 was damn quick off the line unlike my 14. If I decide I want that touchiness again I'll buy a pedal commander. I'm the meantime I'll use Tow/Haul mode.

    Bells and whistles ...meh.

It's a truck. The kids were hoping for push button start as that is what some other trucks had in our price range, it doesn't I told them I'd take roll up windows if I could. Easier to fix, easier to maintain, reliable, less to go wrong with.

    Toyota hands down. No comparison.

Uhh, no. From an article back in 2013: The taxpayer loss on the GM bailout is $10.5 billion. The Treasury department said it recovered $39 billion from selling its GM stake, and had put $49.5 billion of taxpayer money directly into the GM bailout

Careful. Some of the mods here are a little jumpy when it comes to mentioning political figures. Might hit you with a week suspension for saying Trumps name. Or maybe it’s okay if it isn’t in the form of a meme. Idk.

It is nice But I love my Tundra it is a 2015 1794. But it will be really hard to top. Why change to Ram and when the New wears off go back to Tundra.

If you want a reliable workhorse, Tundy all the way. If you want a pretty interior, not sure the Ram is the best option in that department either.

Just play it safe, and go with the one that will outlast the others- Tundra.

there was two parts to that story, numbers you are showing are in fact true for the investment portion because govt sold off the stocks way to early. the loan portion was indeed paid back 5 years early actually. that is all they were obligated to pay back and they did. problem i have with them now is what they are doing to there workers now that they are a top 5 most profitable company in the country.

Half of the story of the UAW getting screwed points to their own leadership. Buttttt none of this has anything to do with helping the OP from potentially making a horrible life choice.....

The Woman's uncle is a sales manager at a DCJR dealership. When I offloaded my POS ford *spit*, I asked him what he could do for me on a new Ram 1500. He flat out refused to sell me one. It's not that he wouldn't give me a deal on one. He refused to sell me a Ram truck, period. He won't ever sell Ram trucks to friends and family because he won't sell them something that he doesn't believe is quality. He told me he would rather see me in my POS ford *spit* than have the guilt of selling me a Ram truck on his consience. So I ended up coming back to Toyota, where I will stay from now on.

This guys was not happy with his 19 Ram 1500. Sounds like he got a lemon. I feel you are rolling the dice buying the big three. Some will be reliable, others not so much. I feel it's luck. Like buying a German car. If I were to buy one of the three I would buy a raptor. Such a badass truck and you can hammer on it out of the box.

I pose this question to the group: of the Big 3 trucks, which one do you distrust the least? It’s just a hypothetical, I’m not considering changing teams. For me, Ram is an FCA product, so they’re out. Ford has gotten too techy for my taste, so I’m leaning GM as “least bad”’of the three. Thoughts?

Yeah the TFL guys seem to really like the RAM so far. When I bought my 2017 TRD Pro I actually put a deposit down on a 1500 ram rebel but in the end I didn't trust the RAM enough to go through with it although they blow the Tundra's interior away and they have some decent interior storage as well. My truck is not perfect but it gives me piece of mind especially for how much these suckers cost! Just my 2 pennies.

I owned a 2011 GMC Sierra that I bought brand new. It was a great truck. I only had one major issue, when a cylinder sleeve cracked due to bad casting from the factory. It required replacing all the lifters under warranty. It was handled quickly and professionally by the dealership. I loved everything about the truck and to this day still wonder why I traded it in on the ford *spit*. If I hadn't gotten back into a Toyota, I'd be driving a GMC again. I've had nothing but good experience with GM trucks both for personal use and as fleet trucks, half ton up to 1 tons. If I need a 3/4 or 1 ton diesel, the only truck I'd buy would be a GM.

My order from distrusting the most to a hot mess.....

    1. GM/Chevy
    2. Ram
    3. Ford

So I have owned about 6 Chevy trucks prior to my Tundra. Anything from a 1988 2500 to 2011 Chevy 2500HD Duramax and some 1500 gassers spread throughout. In all honesty, I have never had anything major with my GM trucks. I had an alternator go out once, radiator sprung a leak but that is about it in about 16 years of owning them. Some were worked hard on a farm also.

I have told this story on here and I will tell it again. I really liked the look of the Fords and really wanted one when I bought my Tundra. At my old job at the time, there were 6 Ford owners, 1 Chevy, 1 Tacoma (Just Sold Ram). All 6 had problems and wanted to beat their chest how great they were. 2 guys go had brand new 2019 F-150 King Ranch and Platinum. The King Ranch spent about 4 weeks in the shop for vibrations, limp mode on the interstate. The Platinum had the 5.0 and had the knock that some experience. Electronic running boards stopped working also. Dropped both of them off at the dealer several times and picked them up on the side of I-40 in my Tundra......

Fast forward to my new job......

We have 2 divisions and one division has Fords (6) and the other division we have 6 1500 GMC Denallis and 2 2500HD Denallis are owner and head Project Manager drives. The 6 1500 Denallis are driven by our Superintendents and Project Managers. I have to be honest and say that the GMC Denali has been really solid actually across the board. No major repairs and our maintenance shop does the maintenance on them. They are driven a lot and some are approaching 200k miles. They range in age from 2015 to 2019.

The Fords have been a hot mess overall as a whole. We have everything from the absolute base model with 2.7 ecoboost up through a Platinum with 5.0. Major repairs and used in the same manner. Even the 3 F-250 Power Storkes have been very costly to maintain and operate over time. The Duramax and Allison combo has been much more reliable and cost effective over time.

We track our costs to the absolute penny on all assets and I run the accounting department. Even though we have 2 less Fords, cost of ownership compared to GMC has been about 4.5x as much over the past 3 years. Our owner is the GM guy, his partner who runs the division with Fords is hardcore Ford. Spirited discussions in monthly meetings and over the next year the Fords will be hitting the road.

As an executive of a company, my basis for this is facts off of true operating costs over 3 years and thousands of miles.

Not to mention the 6 guys I use to work with and my wife's 3 uncles who have went through 2 transmissions, turbo replacement, and many other problems in trucks no older than a 2013.......

I actually think Ford is probably the best overall looking truck inside and out but they are truly a hot mess and on unprecedented rate of problems and claims. Ford is quickly deteriorating financially also.

I tried everything and anything to convince myself to get a f150 and boy am I glad I was smart and went with the Tundra.

Which one spent 15 years lying about frame issues until a 3.2 billion lawsuit happened forcing them to replace the frames?

Some of you guys are chugging the kool-aid by the gallon.

For 2019+, Ram is the truck to beat. Styling, packaging, frame, suspension, pricing and interior quality. OP is not wrong for looking at one. Coil suspension is class leading and a noticable advantage. There is a reason their sales continue to increase while Tundra has never come close to its targets.

Don’t consider myself to be a kool aid chugger, I just went where the reliability data took me, which was to Toyota. I also didn’t say that the OP is wrong for looking at a ram, I asked a broader “what would you do if?” -type question, which people can choose to answer or not. While I grant that the ram does have its charms, the number of recalls is already has is quite compelling.

That the tundra is still on the market is sufficient to indicate that its sales DO hit their target volumes. Regardless, I don’t see how you could possibly know what that target is, unless you have access to Toyota’s sales and operations plan; data would seem to indicate that Toyota targets moving about 100k units per year.
