The rear locker doesn't really help with the 4lo limiter issue but the gears do. It's all about maintaining rpms through/over obstacles. Once you're up against something that wants to stop the truck (specifically the rear wheels) and you're at idle, the throttle just becomes unresponsive, locker on or not.

I usually experience the issue going up a step or ledge. Normally I would crawl up, bump my front wheels up and over and slowly crawl up when the rear wheels make contact. Tundra won't let me do that so I need to approach those types of obstacles differently—never letting the rpm's drop too much and maintaining momentum which seems like a good way to break shit.

I guess Toyota engineers were thinking they needed to protect the drivetrain from the big 5.7. My 3rd and 5th gen 4runners never did anything like this and yes, they had small motors and less power but they also had smaller diffs and a weaker drivetrain. I have a buddy with a 200 series Land Cruiser which has the same motor and smaller rear diff and his rig does not have any 4lo limiter issues.

Curious if any of the new Tundras have this issue.

I'm always down to get out. hit me up if you're in the area.
