Pretty sure I bought the key you have? It’s not compatible with my truck.

EDIT: maybe not, I guess I don’t know what your truck needs.

I have an 05 Sequoia. After cross referencing the numbers it appears that your key won't communicate with my car.

Joining in on the fun here, lots of useful information but i'm still slight confused.

    2002 Tundra, Access Cab

    Info i've found:
-Window sticker says "convenience pkg w/keyless entry, power windows, door locks"
-Checked Toyota site using my VIN - Port or Factory installed - "VP Convenience package w/ keyless entry". No mention of security

    What i've tried:
-going through the programming procedure to see if my truck will accept programming mode (note this is listed as 2003)
    https://www.programyourremote.com/c...ey-programming-instructions-listing-6164.aspx
    - after several attempts, truck isn't accepting. And yes, i made sure to go to the correct key position (on) instead of ACC

    Question
Is it possible I have an RS system (3000 or 3200)? I can check under dash

Any advice on next steps? perhaps check under dash for the box?

    Thanks!

Check under dash for box. Likely rs3000

Thanks @daveeasa , just crawled under there and saw a box wrapped in black electrical tape, going to lookup a few pictures and see if that is the unit.

If so, is there a specific thread for instructions for the RS3000, or do I just need to weave through this thread and put the pieces together? ;)

No luck, that ended up being a handful of connectors bunched together and wrapped with Electrical tape.

What if I don't have either box? Is the truck still equipped with keyless entry like it mentions on the VIN and Window sticker?

Mine was as you describe. Connectors (not used) in tape and behind that the box in the photo.

there are instructions (in this thread) to unwind the connectors to allow programming as they are in a loop which blocks programming. Then a button to press to set up new keys. Up to 6? I’ll have to re-read myself as I’m forgetful

@daveeasa Does your truck have the security light? Mine has a blank in that location...

I only ask because the instructions for programming (per the diagram you posted) refer to that light and making sure it's on during the programming for part of the process

Mine does not. I believe our security modules are entirely add on. Though the toyota owners website seems to imply mine was added at the factory.

I’m planning my RedArc dial for the blank It’ll be nice to not hit my knee on it like I do in my Tacoma.

I found the box, I do indeed have the RS3000 system.

Unfortunately the fob I bought ends in -056 instead of -022, which I dont think will work with the RS3000 (08190-00921) according to @deh4170

Also, regarding the connectors being looped (which I also see), do they simply need switched just for the programming, or do they remain swapped afterward?

Thanks for the help @deh4170 and @daveeasa i'm getting close!

The connectors remain swapped...you should notice that your door locks will automatically lock when ignition is started and unlocks when shut off. Sounds like you are one step closer!

Awesome! thanks for the help, any need to disconnect the battery before doing that connector swap?

Ordering a different Fob now, should be back in business by the weekend.

I didn't disconnect the battery, but it never hurts to be 100% certain nothing shorts out. Ensure that ignition switch is turned to the "on" position before pressing the green button on the ECU...I would also do the erase procedure mentioned in earlier posts to erase any previous key fobs.

One thing that I still don't understand, is why the plugs need swapped to program and for the functionality to work? If that were the case, maybe the original owner had never used any keyfobs and the feature was just never enabled at the dealer?

If I'm understanding things correctly, they plug them in, program the pair, lock it down by changing to the loop, then stuff it all up in the dash. Hence no easy key add (probably a potential revenue source for the dealership?) and no security risk? Not really sure though to be honest.

Seems pretty clear that unplug-replug is the way to go though.

The programming worked! Thanks for all of the help. I went ahead and replaced the ignition lock cyclinder as well during the process.

Happy to help anyone else that might need it :)

Got a chance to do this finally. They work. However all buttons do the same thing, lock or unlock based on if it’s currently locked or currently unlocked. The beep tells you what it did. Not bad though, I’ll take it, even though it’s a bit non standard. Preferable to a separate key and fob.

well, actually, not entirely true. The lock button doesn’t do anything. But unlock, panic and trunk pop either lock or unlock.

That is a much nicer key setup than mine, can you please provide a link for that? Are you going to have it keyed to the same as your ignition key?

I think I already posted it in here but don’t mind spamming again. Note the points about the icons not actually doing what they say they do. Also note it’s my 2002 with rs3000 not the newer models with 3200 or whatever.

I think I'd actually enjoy this in my 2006. I really get sick of my fob smacking into the dash on bumpy roads, which in ATL is, like, every friggin road.

I have a 2002 Tundra that has the factory installed keyless entry system. I bought the truck used, and it came with one remote. I lost the remote, and would like to buy a refurbished OEM unit, but I only see remotes for dealer installed entry systems for sale. I am told if I have the Toyota part number, some of the used remote sellers say they can get me one. I have called Toyota dealer parts, and they give me part numbers for 3-button remotes that aren't for a 2002. Does anyone have a factory installed system and can tell me any info from their remote (FCC#, part #, ?) that might help me get a replacement? Thanks, Doug

Do you happen to have a picture of the original factory remote anywhere, in a picture, anything?

I think this thread confirms, there were only two types of OEM key fobs, depending on whether you had the earlier RS3000 system or the RS3200.

Really though, the dealership can run your VIN to figure out which of the two factory systems you have. The part number they gave you should give you the visual pic.

Thanks for the reply! I don't have a pic, but it was a two-button OEM remote. The dealership ran my VIN, and said part #0819100922, which is a 3-button remote that isn't listed for my year (when I searched on the part #). I talked to a different dealership and was told they have a 2-button remote for a factory installed system, so I will go look at it in a day or two. Should I be able to program the factory system myself?
    Thanks, Doug

If you have RS3000 like I do in my 2002, you need to do the unplug and de-loop as instructed in this thread, and you also need physical access to the receiver to program.

Step 1 is locate the receiver box, take a photo, post here and confirm your FCCID. That then tells you which fobs are compatible.

No real point in going to the dealer for this stuff, it's not hard, just a little time consuming and you have to learn stuff (took me several attempts to figure out wtf was going on).

Thanks for the reply. Is your system factory installed? I will seek to get a pic when I am able. The confirmation from the pic will be good. Thanks! Doug

Yes. It looks like this on my toyota owners site and also shows on my window sticker. The receiver is tucked up high so you have to take off that lower panel under the steering wheel then remove the ducting and it's still a bear to get to the 10mm nut holding it. Hint: It is not the tape wrapped connector block, it's a foam wrapped box, you'll separate the foam to see the FCC ID. Then you do the connector loopback undo and once you have a fob you can program it.

So, unfortunately a two step process if you want to avoid potential frustration of purchasing the wrong fob.

Thanks for the reply! That info in your pic on the VP portion is just what mine says. I delved into this a couple of years back when I was trying to get a non-OEM fob I bought from ebay to work, so hopefully I can find my way again. Thanks!

If you have my FCCID you might be interested in going the flip fob route I did. Took 2 tries to find someone who had the right machine to cut it, but works pretty good (just no functional difference between any of the buttons and I think one of the 3 doesn't do anything). Programmed easy enough for me at least, but you really want to know your FCCID before buying anything.

Howdy! Thanks for the tip on the flip fob option - I appreciate you telling me the options.
