No it works as well. They provide the gps antenna with the unit since they don’t know what oem antennas you have on yr truck to start with

Yes, if you want to use the stock antenna for FM radio.

It appears that JVC Kenwood released a new firmware update for our radios on 12/15/2020 : https://www2.jvckenwood.com/cs/ce/mm/firmware/2020/2020g/eng.html

I updated my radio tonight, took about 5 minutes and was easy to do. We'll see if this helps at all with the wireless CarPlay stuttering I was intermittently experiencing.

I didn’t connect the power on my 2017 and I still get all the channels I got before - even HDRadio. I do believe it’s required on the new trucks with the shark fin antenna.

    Edit for clarity.

See if the stuttering is linked to a certain location. There are a couple intersections around that I get this and it’s always the same intersections.

Hang on, what did you plug into the FM radio antenna receptacle on the radio then? Or did you just not plug anything into it?

It's not location-specific for me. I've done plenty of trips where the wireless CarPlay works without a hitch, and others where it has problems every once in a while. I'm sure that actual RF interference of some type may cause these issues in certain cases but I don't think that's what's causing my issue.

EDIT: Just to clarify, for example, it one time happened on a trip on 101 South heading through Gilroy, and hasn't happened again there since.

I plugged the antenna in I just didn’t connect the blue wire for power as I read the 2014-2017 didn’t utilize powered antennas.

I did the install a year ago so I can’t exactly recall every detail but my conclusion was I didn’t need it which is why I still have this.
I’m not curious enough to pull the HU out to look.

Ok, I lied. I went and pulled out the HU to see what’s going on. I do have an adapter that is plugged into the HU but the blue wire is not powered. I’m not sure why or how I ended up with an extra adapter but it’s yours @619Tundra if you want it. PM me your address and I’ll put it in the mail.

Just received everything from Cruthfield in the mail yesterday. Thanks to all who have posted their installs for the help.

I am still a bit hesitant to lose some of the functions of the factory stereo if it is so.

Can anyone here confirm that all factory steering wheel buttons will work? Is there any change in the buttons? I have read volume is opposite? Does voice control work? Will the gauge cluster still show fuel mileage, stations, TPMS and maintenance?

    Thanks in advance

Yes, your steering wheel buttons will continue to work. Volume up is still right, volume down is still left for me. When you are programming the Maestro unit, you have the option to remap the buttons to various functionality mapped to the radio/Maestro. Gauge cluster will still show you fuel mileage, TPMS, maintenance, etc, but will change your "Now Playing" screen to what the Maestro gives it, and also your arrow when navigating won't do that anymore.

Voice control button now activates Siri for me, will probably activate google assistant if you have that.

You also gain the ability to mute by holding the volume down button for about three seconds. Pretty cool

So I’ve got the Kenwood DNX1057 XR coming in tomorrow to install in my 2019 PRO with OEM non JBL head unit into a JL VXI amp. Anything I’m missing or tips, so I can get it all done in one shot?

Why the over ride parking brake? You can ground the wire to the back of the unit.

Just finished installing mine today. It took longer than I thought but turned out great!

I ran the microphone to the overhead console. I am not sure what this factory location is for but it worked great for hiding the mic.

That's were the mic used to be on earlier Tundras. Good choice! Looks clean. Can you tell me, can you scroll thru XM stored presets using the steering wheel controls? I cannot on my current Kenwood, and my desire to upgrade to this depends on that, because it's the one feature I miss from my stock radio.
