Is it possible to keep the truck running after you use remote start with the fob once you open the door with keyless entry or unlock it? Seems kinda redundant that it turns off then I have to start it again. My 2013 raptor allowed for this wondering if there’s an option or something

    thanks!

Mine stays on... but was aftermarket. As long as I don’t touch the brake before turning the key to the on position.

When I had mine added, I was informed that it's a safety feature. Incase someone jumps in before you get to your car, they can't leave without the keys.

Theres been a few threads on this over time. The stock remote start kills the ignition as a safety feature. Despite our hatred of it. Aftermarket systems will not do this due to how they're wired. No there is no way of disabling it. At least no one has came up with a way yet...

This is a Toyota thing. I have had and still have other vehicles with factory remote start that do not do this. My 14 Tundra has an aftermarket remote start by Fortin that does not do this.

This is a push button start thing. Not a Toyota thing. My wifes Pilot does that as well. Hes got a 2020 the dirty bastard.

No it's a Make/Model thing. My wife has a 2016 accord with push button start and factory remote start and hers doesnt shut off unless you push the brake pedal and try to shift out of park.

I have a 2017 Nissan Armada with push button start and factory remote that stays on when you enter the vehicle. I had a 2014 Dodge Durango with push button start and factory remote that stayed on when you enter the vehicle. Push Button Start is not the dependent factor.

My 2016 SR5 shuts off when you unlock. It's a Toyota thing.

Toyota soiled the bed on their remote start in a number of ways. First was the use of the app (or required service plan with Toyota to use the FOB) instead of just the FOB to start the truck. Second was the shutoff when the door opens. My F150 kept the doors locked until you arrive with the FOB (such witchcraft! crazy tech...just like Toyota does today with the door lock/unlock sensors) AND didn't let you shift out of park unless the FOB was present.

Too bad all of it cannot be overridden...

Whatever the Toyota app is. And you get a few months free service when you buy the truck. Let’s you start the truck, track maintenance, emergency services, traffic, etc. It also enables the owner to use the FOB for remote start.

I have not used an app. I had Toyota Care but it was only good for like 3 oil changes. My truck uses the original fob to remotely start.

The remote start from the fo has nothing to do with the app. The app does exactly what you said and when the free service runs out you loose only what that service offered.

Unfortunately it’s a Toyota thing, none of my Rams with push button start did it and neither of my wife’s Honda’s stop like Toyota. Maybe it’s a good thing , my wife had an Accord with one of the first push button starts. Our plan is we go into town in her car I drop her off at the grocery store drive to the meat market and then come back and get her.
Get in the car and because she had the the fob in her purse the car started no worries, I pull up to the grocery store drop her off. Go down to the meat market and buy our beef, pork etc.. go back out to the car and push the button and nothing happens. NO FRICKIN FOB, wife has it.

‘I call her at grocery store and she has to find a stranger that looks friendly to drive her about 5 miles down the road to the meat market.

It is different on the 2020’s

Does your FOB remote start still work for you and your Toyota Care has expired? Because there have been multiple posts here on the forum that talk about this same thing and it only seems to work with people that are either still within their trial period or have expended the coverage.

I have remote start installed from factory and opted out of keyless entry for this reason. I use my actual key And the sequence to remote start on my key. I unlock to get in, stick the key in the ignition and turn it to KOEO (key on engine off) position, since the truck is already been cracked and running. I usually leave the A/C on level 1, or on a hot day on high and the truck stays locked while on. I unlock and jump in and it’s nice. But remember don’t touch the pedal till the key is in the KOEO or it will shut off.

You need a Chevy LOL, my old Chevy 2016 Silverado started and did not DIE when I open the doors via remote start. Though you cant drive off without the key in the On position though :D My Subaru will die (both with push button start), obviously GM (for 2016 at least) doesn't care about safety.

Is yours a SLICE? I've been trying to figure out why mine will sometimes stay on but most times turns off right before I put the key in. I thought it was some weird vodoo $%*t and my truck was just messing with me.

Mine had been working fine until today in a store parking lot. I noticed a guy got out of his vehicle and it seemed we pushed our key fob's probably about the same time, him locking his and me trying to unlock my door to put my groceries in. My fob would not work, l had to unlock my door with my key. It worked fine at my next stop.. I'm still wondering why that happened.
