How’s the leather holding up for those that did the install?

My leather is holding up fine but my install job is being exposed. I think I had the leather rotated too far forward so the back flaps of the wrap are coming in-stuffed. Unless you’re feeling/looking for it you’d never notice though.

True that...I put black duct tape on my back flaps at the bottom legs. They don't give you enough length there and is short like 1/2".

Yep. For $50 I might just spend a warm night in the garage and take the steering wheel off to do it over. I’m anal AF about that stuff.

Can anyone or does someone have a YouTube on this. I ordered one and it was wrong type sent to me. Every day I drive my truck getting a leather wrap has always been on my mind. Just like the look and feel. The factory plastic takes away from driving the truck.

There are a handful of videos from sellers but watch a few of them to get an idea and use my tips.

What you mean by wrong type?

I'll be honest, it does look great when done right but the smooth part is ... well smooth :D If it wasn't for the perforation, I probably would not be happy. The rubber steering wheel has way more grip but looks boring. I'm hoping this "genuine leather" breaks in over time and hardens up a bit making it feel more grippy. I believed it's goat skin leather and not hide from a cow. Time will tell when its baking in 100+ degree heat this summer.

If you replace it, see if you can find what ever leather car manufacturer use for their steering wheel. Comparing it to my leather riding gear, this reminds me of goat or lamb skin. Very silky soft but not as durable and grippy as top grain. I'm not a leather expert by no means but I know I'm afraid to accidentally rub my belt buckle on it when getting in and out :annoyed:

    Too many…scratch that…not done yet.
I'll simply agree with what others have said in the last 10+ posts. For being my first time attempting a steering wheel wrap, I've been beyond happy. Mine has been on not quite a year, but no issues whatsoever.

bought it on Amazon, says it fit a 2018 tundra but as I was trying to do a dry run to see how the fit on the wheel would look the cut was made for another type of wheel. Sent it back.

Interesting. The perforated sections are definitely cushy on mine, but the smooth leather part is still very supply and grippy. Do you use cleaning chemicals on yours? I just use warm water

I’ll look into it! My FILs factory leather steering wheel in his Tacoma feels the way you’re describing - durable and grippy. Gets kind of a polish to it after a couple of months. Mine is very spongy compares to his.

    @sunnysideTRD

This is a fairly recent video of a guy just swapping his out for the real leather wheel from a Tacoma - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOX_6E5pZYI - this is what I'll be doing. If you can't beat it, buy it.

@3rdGenTundraDC this is probably your best bet as well. You and I feel the same about the aftermarket wraps... fragile.

Looks like I'll be an Ebay whore for a while until I find the right one.

I leather wrapped mine and recently bought a Tacoma one on eBay during a 15% sale. The diy leather feels much better

I actually like the feeling of the real leather from the Tacoma. I don't want soft and supple. I am looking for more durable/long-lasting.

Valid point. Make sure you check with the seller the leather is still in good condition. The one I bought came from a 2014 and it was starting to wear already

I think I found a decent one on Ebay. It's $330 though. Do you think anyone on here would buy my SR5 steering wheel?

Anyone seen this for a 2nd gen? I'm on the hunt... seen the "wheelskins" version for ~$55. I'm wondering if there's an entire wheel like the Tacamo TRD that swaps directly with the Gen 3 Tundras, but for the Gen 2...

Oh oh - would you guys say your wheel is black or charcoal? (for those that have the gen2 grey interior)?

Did this yesterday on my truck. Love the look and the feel. Man it was a major pain in the ass tho. Black leather with light gray thread. Should have used more of the double sided tape. Especially on the flat parts at the 3 & 9 position. Next time I'll remove the steering wheel. I did remove the airbag and controls which helped a ton.

Take it extra slow and make sure you get the tabs stuffed under the plastic or you won’t be happy with it after a while!

Getting everything taped down good before you start stitching will be helpful.

I will be taking my airbag and the buttons off> Might even pull the whole steering wheel to do this.

Man back flaps on bottom legs are too short damn it!
We need to give them reviews on that issue. So I had to use double tape.

I took my wheel completely off. Also took off button panels and painted them black. Pictures coming.

My stitching is not perfect. But can't tell. Over all looks ok. But this is not a perfect cut.

Also whoever did this in under 2 hours. It must have been an amazing stitch master or the end result sucked bad. Took me about 5 hours.
