I don't wear steel toes, but do like the added protection of a high quality work boot. Had a 4' piece of 4x4x1/4 wall fall over on top of my right foot last week. Too many warnings to ignore at this point.

But do you want/need a bumper with the flatbed?
I figured you were just using the bed to start mocking up bumpers for Fabby Jake sales

Yeah, that's definitely why the stock bed ended up on there. It really is a simple operation to swap them since im using all the factory mounts (and I have a forklift). 30 minutes or less.
Ive got a few other parts designed where having the stock bed in place will be useful.I plan to continue integrating with all the factory holes and mounts so I can change stuff up/design and build new stuff at will.

The flatbed still needs to be raised 2-3" for tire clearance. This means cutting out the existing mounts and replacing them with a new design. Not a big deal, but also not a priority right now.
With the camper and the flatbed both off the truck I can work on them as one unit once I start doing fiberglass again . It'll be a lot better to work on from ground level than at truck bed height. knamsayin?

The camper does fit in the stock bed too. Options out the wazoo.

Not a whole lot of visual change today.
My airline from the compressor into the shop has an ice plug somewhere so no plasma/bender.
I did manage to get a tube bent to tie the bumper to the factory hitch. I think its really what the whole thing was missing.

I feel like the hitch could have been worked into the bumper some how. Looks good but that little fucker hanging low bothers me

Definitely could be. I have a tow rig so in reality the hitch could just come off. Most people aren't down with modifying a hitch, and im trying to appeal to the largest group possible.

yep. Without the factory hitch people would be tearing off rear bumpers and bed corners constantly. Some of the MERUS stuff would be eating tailgates.

One of the best parts about the BFF rear is the hidden hitch, that I rarely use. :D
Now that I've got another truck with a hitch, I doubt I'll use the BBF bumpers hitch unless I bobbed the bed and bought a small camper to tow. Of course that would mean I'd have to modify the bumper or go with something different.

Still a neat option to consider in future bumpers.

    Fuck them mud flaps!

I'd like a high mount bumper when we get to mine. Something like the costal. Then paint the sides of the bumper gold to match what I have now. I dunno. Just thinking aloud.

The costal has a high cut into the lower bed.

    Screenshot_20250212_185022_Adblock Browser.jpg

So I would paint just the side to match my two tone.

Reminds me of the time that a vise fell off my drill press and fell on my foot. I was wearing a pair of nike air jordan 4. As much as it hurt, i was VERY concerned that i damaged my shoe!

lol with the holy socks…i think most all of my socks look the same exact way. Of course all welders play the tuff guy game of “trying not to flinch when there’s molten metal dripping on your skin”.

Yes sir! I figured I'd let you do the standard(I use that term loosely; that bumper is bad ass!) Before we getsta cutting on some custom stuff. Maybe something like this:

    1: sequoia axle
    2: sliders
3: rear bumper since I drag on anything bigger than a speed bump
    4: front bumper tube/solid hybrid
5: light bar tube to mount some KC hi-lites 80s style

Im only a couple of revisions away from having some ditch light brackets prototyped :rofl:I think #10 or 11 is on the truck now. Final parts won't have the scored bend line, doing that just speeds up the design process.
    20250217_182318.jpg

Picked up a pair of Auxbeam's Xp-ultra 3" pods for them. At a quick glance the build quality looks good enough for who it's for. I'll likely do a review after I get them installed.
    20250220_203749.jpg

It's been bitterly cold the last several days. Looks like we will be above freezing today, and tomorrow kicks off 10 days of 60 degree daytime temps and above freezing overnights. Got a few more parts designed that I'm looking forward to flesh out in the shop.

Just put the "finishing touches" on the diesel heater mounted into a Harbor freight Apache 4800 case. Already have some tweaks for v2 that ill be putting together for a friend of mine.

-1 for the emt conduit exhaust extension +1 for having an extinguisher on hand. last thing it really needs is a combustion air intake/grate, that's why the case is cracked open.
    20250221_121238#1.jpg

Test wiring harness. Aviation connectors are the tits. I plan to have a plug near the mount on/in the camper, and one on the truck itself. You could potentially use one heater across several locations say your camper/boat/sxs/shed/portable power station. Just wire in a matching aviation connector in each.
    20250220_153331.jpg

Shop is currently at 40 degrees and I've got the heater going at full chooch. Ill monitor it every 10 minutes or so and see how the temperature responds.

Coincidentally I just finished these up. I think I have 4 days in this first set. Countless poster board templates, 13 steel prototypes, and around 20 separate drawings :rofl:I still need to hit them with some powder coat. Some of that time was also used to build the bending tooling and some layout jigs for consistency. Pretty stoked on how they came out!
