    Unfortunately you can’t fix stupid and in this case it’s selfish stupidity and they should get what they deserve.

    Fair points. I guess in my case when I think of heading out to the wilderness, I'm thinking of a different definition of wilderness. Where I go if I drive for an hour, maybe 2 and I'm unlikely to see another person all day. If I do, it's from a distance or driving past them on the backroad. The trails we hike in summer, on the busiest days I've only seen 2 or 3 other people and that's usually from a kilometer or so. In the last few years, we've never come within shouting distance of anyone else. Even when I go ice fishing, if there are others on the lake they're hundreds of yards away. The last time I got within a few hundred feet of someone while ice fishing was when the fish cop came over to check our licences.

    To be fair, it's really damn hard to stay away from folks in the grocery store even if it's not packed.

    My comment and observations were made with this firmly in mind.

    They seem to have made some strategic decision to only leave the huge shopping carts available for now too and I imagine this is to try to make it harder to not keep distance somehow but the effect was to just cause traffic jams in all isles that linger for a while as many seem to ignore that there are others in the isle with them who try to minimize the time spent in proximity to each other.
    So instead of people just flowing through quickly there were backups everywhere making sure that we each had time to spend in each others space?

    I also always marvel at the time some of us take to shop in normal times as I tend to know what I want and. try to fly through but normally this would not really affect my breathing as it were.
    Now obviously that is literally not the case anymore!

    I also realize that we are all frustrated these days by things that would otherwise not be big deals but there are huge deals now that a month ago were not a deal at all and looking to keep physical distance requires a commitment to this and resolve to act on it now.

    So when I do the one activity that still requires us to group together to survive pretty much it seems that a minimum level of participation by everyone there is not a whole lot to ask but does seem like much to expect?

    We were fortunate enough to buy an older home in a small town outside of Austin 4 years ago. My "escape" is going into our side yard and doing some landscaping.
    As far as grocery shopping, we are doubly fortunate that the towns on either side of us have HEB's. They line you up to go in (6ft apart), squirt your hands with sanitizer and hand you a sanitizing wipe to take care of your cart before you enter the store. When you check out, they make you keep the same distance and, at the store I was at last week, wipe down the checkout conveyor after each person. The little sneeze guard is kind of worthless but it's the thought, I guess. After visiting HEB last week, I drove over to Walmart to see if they had some flour and it was the exact opposite there. I walked in and thought I was grabbing a sanitizing wipe and it was a paper towel. They were operating as if there was nothing happening. And I guess that represents the difference between how we are all handling this. Some of us are maybe being overly cautious, like HEB, and some of us don't seem to be a little more lackadaisical, like Walmart. I can tell you that I won't be going back to Walmart.
    Be safe out there and stay healthy.

    I’m all for getting out of the house if you can go somewhere remote, safely. What REALLY pisses me off, is all the dumb shits who are out of country, had a RIDICULOUS amount of time to either come home or cancel their trip, but are now pleading like victims of some unforeseen hardship for our Federal government (taxpayers) to move heaven and earth to repatriate them. What a waste of money and energy. Too bad people are unwilling to accept the consequences of their actions.

    Some stuff
    you covered that much better than my knee jerk reaction. kudos to you.

    as a side note, moscow has now expanded their network of cctv security of the city. if you have been tested positive and the facial recognition software picks you up outside, you get picked up. then, everyone you came into contact with while you were outside gets a text message saying that they were exposed and need to get tested.

    i'm waiting for the wildfire spread through the homeless populations...

    personally, i would love nothing more than to get in the truck to disappear but given the amount of traffic that is driving by the house, it won't happen. hell, i would love to be skiing or riding my bike or hiking into the last remnants of winter. none of that is going to happen either. so, i'm content at the house. i've got plenty to do as i scramble to come up with ideas for how my studio is going to bounce back from this. good books to read. sun is out and the back deck is warm.

    I am just waiting for the people who have summer homes here to show up from Cali, Arizona among other areas and blow up our town. They are going to leave their other homes early trying to get away from urban areas. It’s going to happen just watch.

    exact same scenario happened in Europe. City dwellers left the big cities and ran to their summer houses by the coast or mountains. The issue is they are burdening a weak healthcare system outside the big cities and that's a problem.

    Our generation has never known the hardships of our grandfolks generation, when there were no vaccines and polio came every year putting people in wheel chairs for the rest of their lives.

    Exactly. People are stupid and selfish. For every person that is doing their best to follow recommended protocol, there's another that has no idea what is going on or is simply defying any order.

    My friend was telling me that a lot of his friends that also have summer homes in Havasu are headed up there. They aren't bringing supplies, so they are buying up what is in stores up there. He's rightfully worried about the impact on that little town and for his elderly mother who lives there. But people don't give a shit. That's why this is going to get worse. People in Europe have to fill out an online form to leave the house for groceries. But that won't work here because everyone thinks they're special and not all rules apply to them.

    1 confirmed case in your county means there’s already over 20 people infected. And it will start doubling every few days. That one person got infected 2 weeks ago by an asymptomatic person who’s already passed it to 2 or 3 people. Those 2 or 3 people then passed it to another 2 or 3 other people. And the viscous cycle begins. Small Town America really need to start preparing for this, it’s not just a big city problem. It’s going to spread to every part of this country.

    wow, you have my entire county infected death waiting according to your accurate data. Wait you have none, nobody does!!!
    It’s been 1 for 3+ weeks, I am neither naive nor an alarmist.
    We are still at a fatality rate of less than 1% which is actually much lower due to the points you just made. How many thousands of people have
    * no symptoms
    * slight symptoms
    * mild flu symptoms
    * full on symptoms
    AND don’t/can’t get tested, they just isolate for two weeks and they are never recorded.

    It is my opinion that MANY people (10s of thousands)have already had it and are past it.

    Those numbers factored in would make the fatality rate less than .5%

    Does that make this less serious no, we can only make sure we each do the smart thing and that is very much a subjective statement depending on where you live.

    So I will live and abide by Lincoln county restrictions and you follow yours

    Exactly. As long as getting test results is as slow as it is and people not staying home, this is going to continue. Ways to gather test results faster are being developed. When this happens we will be able to react faster and contain this better. Rural America, please do not take this lightly.

    We take it just as serious as everyone else but we are not piled on top of each other like suburbia. People here keep to themselves, farm and tend to there crops or livestock.
