When you can’t take your family out for ice cream or a nice dinner without that thought that the place you’re in could be the next to be riddled by bullets.
I was thinking this morning that the idea of losing one my children would put me in a very bad place. I can’t even fathom it. And, with all of these senseless massacres it seems the one thing forgotten are all the families suffering, trying to carry on in this world. It has to be one of the toughest things a family could go through.
So, hug your loved ones and appreciate every minute you have with them.
And, please don’t turn this into politics or the MODs will rightfully delete.

I understand your fear, and it is scary to think about. But I also can’t live my life like that. I can’t be worried that everyone is out to hurt me. I do my best to have a plan inside my head in case something ever really did happen. But there’s no guarantee in anything. I don’t want to be afraid to go outside. I still think the chances are very very low something like that could happen. Not impossible but very low. I wish these nut jobs would just off them self instead of everybody else.

I agree with this. It sucks that I have to keep my head on a swivel whenever I go anywhere and be constantly concerned about what I might be walking my family into and what is my quickest way out, but I can’t let that paralyze me. Without getting to political I will just say I do everything in my power to be prepared for what might happen. Safety of my family, myself and those around me is something I think about constantly. It really is a shame that there are so many crazy people in the world. It’s my opinion that all we can do is be prepared as best as we can to deal with the unthinkable. The more people who are prepared the safer we as a society will be.

I hear ya buddy. These senseless acts are happening too frequently, and its becoming part of our daily news. I think we have started to become numb to it, which is really really scary to me. When you think about how many people are effected by violence every day, it's pretty disturbing and can be down right terrifying. You have to live your life but at the same time you can not ignore what's happening around us, and can not forget the families of the victims.

My wife knows whenever we eat out that I have to be facing the door when we sit down to eat. My first thought is that I will become a human shield and cover my family at all costs. I’m a bit of a jumpy person. A loud bang and I am ready to move!

I carry a gun on my everywhere I go. I am always prepared to defend myself and my family. Nothing means more to me than my wife and 2 daughters.

Btw mass shootings are a very small fraction of the total gun deaths every year. More people die from suicides than mass shootings.
    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.com/news/amp/world-us-canada-41488081

My point is that you can’t go around worrying about a massacre. Live your life to the best of your ability.
I cannot go through life worrying about people places and things.

If there is any doubt that these are examples of Domestic terrorism, your post answers it. If it causes you to change the way you live your life out of fear, it is terrorism. But, as horrible as these events are (and I have 2 kids so I can imagine the pain as well), statistically you are far more likely to be involved in a fatal traffic accident than a mass shooting. Especially being on the road with your family when alcohol is involved by other drivers (nights, weekends, holidays, etc). Stay safe, and if you see something say something. Too many of these mass shooters had red flags prior, but nothing was done to prevent their actions.

Media driven terrorism. Committed by attention seekers, used to get people to vote away their rights.

Ive be telling my kids and wife these sayings for 2 decades, “Always be aware of your surroundings”. “You only have control as far as you can stretch your ams out with others”.
I personally can’t and won’t live my life in fear. It will erode life for you sooner or later.
Try to stay positive in all situations. Keep a cool head, that may save your life in it’s self. :hattip:

OP asked that we be aware of how we reply to this so it doesnt get shut down and I think we should respect that. I think that you're tiptoeing that line @ShreveportTSS
Probably went over the line. I do think we should be able to keep this thread open without crossing lines like we have with other topics.

I don’t believe I live my life in fear. I prefer to believe I’m aware and not ignorant to the possibilities. But, I just took my oldest to the PGA Superstore and I’m carrying my SIG. I’m carrying to a freaking golf store. I normally carry everywhere, all the time. I suppose some would consider that “fear”.
As much as I feel bad for the victims, I feel equally as bad for those left behind to pick up the pieces. It’s a nasty cycle.
But, I agree. You have to live your life without worrying all the time. I don’t alter what I do but I think it’s sad I feel more safe carrying a gun everywhere I go.

    Yup ^^^.

When I eat out I face the doorway. The establishment must have windows. I scout the place and have my plan in my head right after I sit down.

I've done this for 25 years folks.

My father taught us all to be aware of our surroundings, to this day, I walk in spot all the exits, try and face the door. I am aware of people that walk in. I have never feared for my safety except twice from human beings. The news plays what people will watch, the bad actors play their role and the get 15 minutes of fame. Quit showing them and maybe the problem goes away.
I have carried a handgun for 35 years now, I have pulled it three times, discharged it only in one of those cases (dogs will not listen to reason). I carried when I lived in California, (I went by the 6/12 rule there). In closing I am more afraid of the idiot texting while driving, or walking, to cause me injury then some deranged asshole who is out to harm others for their bit of fame.

It's pointless to have a thread where the story of loss of life is told, then the "present state of affairs" message is provided (which implies social decay) without discourse as to the cause.

Media distorts and sensationalize events to serve its ideology on both sides.
    An inanimate object doesn't kill.
One must risk offense in order to think through a process and make a decent decision outside influence including survival strategy.

Nobody here said the left did this and the right said that. Everyone is obviously tip toeing. Delete the thread if it's to risky of becoming a Facebook moment and tell the OP such talk is verboten.

    Otherwise... Let people talk. :oldglory:

Some people say mass shootings are all planned to push getting rid of guns in the US. Whatever is the truth, I am always alert anywhere, even on a military base it don’t matter. I see so many people anywhere glued to there phones, I’m the one of very few looking around and paying attention to everything. I’m
Probably the “crazy one” cuz I’m not on my phone like the rest of society, the only social media I’m on is this website and YouTube, no Facebook twitter or whatever the fuck people are brainwashed with these days. How do I keep up on current events? Everyone around me talks about this and that glued to their phones and that’s my information hotline. Live life, keep your head on a swivel, pay attention to your surroundings and you’ll be just fine.

I’m the same way. We use to go get our holiday pictures at Walmart. They had a photo place there. We would wear ugly Christmas sweaters and go to Walmart to get pictures for our Christmas card. This one time the lady running the counter answers the phone and I can see and hear that she’s becoming distressed. I got up and walked over and asked is there something wrong. She said that there was a bomb threat called in. I calmly walked over to my wife and said we need to leave now. She said why. I said there was a bomb threat we need to leave now. She was more worried about getting out pictures taken. I packed up our stuff picked up our 2 year old daughter and processed out the front door. My wife wasn’t wanting to leave. As I was heading across the parking lot SWAT vehicles and many LEO began to flood the parking lot. My wife finally came out and was shocked. They ended up locking down the entire store, everyone in it and the parking lot. We were on our way home by the time this happened. My wife still makes fun of me about how I don’t stick around to find out what happens next. I’ve got many other stories about being there and leaving before it gets bad. I’m always very observant and can feel when the energy changes.

I have been to 3 movies in 15 years due to the theather shootings. So, shamefully I will tell you I've let it change my life. i do eat with my back to the door, I'm aware in a crowd the closest exits, I'm a very alert in church and I always travel with a weapon. Have a plan, then practice the plan. In a live fire event you respond how you practiced.

Either way, life is dangerous- Last week, some a-hole was texting and slammed into my wife and I at 60mph. He never hit his brakes. We were in her work vehicle (suburu Forester) and walked away from the accident. Car totaled, other driver transported with lacerations, neck pains, Airbag burns ect. We live in a very fast paced society and people are careless, unobservant, and irrersponsible.

    Some things to think about:

How many of you with children have a 'safe phrase' that a stranger would have to know before your child would leave with them?
Do you have a plan on who is picking up your child if the cell towers and power go down (a very real reality with cyber crimes now)?
Do you have a word/phrase you use in the house to tell everyone to hide in designated spots in the event of a home invasion?

YES YES YES. You DO NOT wait around. You get the hell out. Time is your most precious tool.

I mentioned previously restaurants with windows. I also ask for a table with chairs. No booth. If want to be able to rake the window out with my chair and then push/throw my family through it.

I get the concern and agree we should have our heads on a pivot these days when out and about.
But the fact is evil walks the earth evil in many forms but most of all in the hearts of man.

With that being said I personally think more folks need to chill eat more bbq drink a beer or two and relax.

I don’t see carrying everywhere a sign of fear. I see it as insurance. Protecting yourself from the unexpected. I wouldn’t drive my truck without insurance and I don’t go anywhere without a gun.
