Just do a drop in k&n filter because you don't want the intake to be sucking sandy air. I off road at the beach and Mountain where it's dry and somewhat sandy. Also sometimes I get a check engine light that comes on because of my intake sucking to much dust. Yes you feel a different than just adding a drop in filter but because your state and my state are almost alike because of dry area, having one helps more than just a drop in.
Exhausted this is what I'm currently running but I'm soon going to put a bigger muffler that is a 3 chamber because right now it's a 1 chamber and it's a bit loud for my hearing. 20191122_113956_HDR_zpsxvycym98_5ab7f33bcca001a3ae46409d3024ba13b732b14f.jpg

If your in extremely dusty conditions I would stay with a good paper drop in, washable K+Ns do let more air in but you will also let more contaminants in also. We used to use paper filters on our older 399 cats that worked great for fine taconite dust. Now on our new eco safe C32 cats the K+N filters are not great at filtering fine particles (pluged aftercoolers, dirty turbos) .

Friends don't let friends use K&N. They are just a gimmick.

Install the K&N and remove the charcoal filter. I did it and picked 1.5 mpg I know seems odd, but it did the trick

LOL. You'd have a shit fit if you saw what condition my hands are in 24/7 :D

I've used K&N in a couple trucks; 1994 Toyota picup 4cyl 22RE, 2011 GMC Sierra 5.3L V8 and 2013 F150 5.0L V8, I noticed zero appreciable gain in any category. I did have them gum up rapidly when driving on dusty roads and require more frequent cleaning than I deemed reasonable. I'm back to using the paper filters and swapping them out when they get filthy.

The charcoal filter is the same as honey cone filter... This FYI buddy is design so that the check engine light doesn't show up. By this... I'm speaking about the MAF. Due to a lot of people don't understand why they have a code when they put on a aftermarket intake. It helps to air to kinda of slow down and moves around instead of having a full open amount going in. This way the maf doesn't act up and telling you it has a problem. The only way to not get one is pay attention to where the maf insert is located. If closer to the tb than you're good and won't be need it. But if it's close to the filter than you will most likely be needing that honey cone. However since you're using the stock most likely you'll be good without it but later on you may have a code. It depends.

Pretty sure the standard response to any of these threads about "will this or that increase mileage" should be "No. You did not buy a fuel efficient vehicle. It will never be fuel efficient. Why don't you love your Tundra for who it is? If you expect the Tundra to change who it is for you, then you are in the wrong relationship." :poking::rofl:

That was one of my first upgrades. It did initially gain a small MPG. However, the growl it had made me feel like a race car driver. In turn, less MPG due to my lead foot.
