Just stop. I’ve driven the hybrid. It’s fine. It’s enjoyable. Blah, blah, blah. I’m very happy with my non hybrid.

    “Never go back!” lol

Either you are just mad you didn’t get a hybrid for the same price or you like to dis credit someone else’s opinion or you just want to waste time bickering or you are just not happy about anything in life or you just wait til the email notifies you that you have a reply to post the next useless comment!

What are you talking about? I literally drove the hybrid and did not want it. You said I would never go back. You love your hybrid. That’s great. I’m glad you love it. I don’t have to love it. It’s silly to call me “mad” because I didn’t choose the hybrid. Or do you think I’m “mad” because you chose the hybrid?

My only point to you, was that your comments are hyperbolic. “Never go back”. It’s literally untrue.

Sorry if you took offense. I simply preferred the non hybrid.

Having owned a 2023 1794 non-hybrid and my current 2024 1794 LE I like the hybrid more. Nothing wrong with the regular i-Force, I just feel the hybrid has a little more pep and I love trying to see how far or often I can go on just the hybrid system at different speeds.

I also love the fact that I don't have to turn off or put an inline switch on the auto on/off feature on the hybrid like I had to do on my old 1794.

I drove the hybrid and wasn't impressed. Yes, it was slightly more responsive accelerating from a stop, but that was really the only difference I noticed. Above 20 mph I didn't notice the electric motor at all.

The main reason I disliked the hybrid was the constant stopping and restarting of the gas engine. That was extremely distracting to me.

So, for me, the hybrid wasn't an upgrade at all, and it certainly wasn't worth the price tag.

I can’t tell you if a hybrid is “worth it” for your purposes. But I can share my reasoning behind getting a regular SR5.
    • I tow a snowmobile trailer, a utility trailer, and often need a long bed for projects - I’ve filled this thing with rocks, gravel, etc. generally, my tow/haul purposes put me beyond a Tacoma, but I don’t get close to the limit of a regular tundra. Therefore, the hybrid wouldn’t actually benefit me
    • Major downside of the hybrid is loss of storage. I LOVE how much storage I have in the SR5, especially under the seat.
    • Simplicity - more electronics, more things to break in my experience.
    • Cost/mileage - mileage gains reported on this forum seem minimal vs the increased cost of the hybrids, plus cost of replacing batteries eventually.
So in short - I wouldn’t ever need or want the extra power and the complexity it brings. And I benefit from more storage.

Maybe you DO need that tow capability, and if so, go for it! But I’m all for being realistic about what you need per dollar spent. Trucks are too expensive these days to tack on stuff I don’t need.

As mentioned earlier, the irony is the hybrid doesn't actually have a higher towing capacity.

True but it gets that towing capacity up to speed faster. Since it appears you like to bend the facts just straighten em out a little bit.

Love my hybrid. Perfect blend of power and tech. Seamless transitions from gas to electric to gas and when you really mash it both engage together for endless torque. No hesitation from stops. Super quiet after turning off the fake engine sound. Idles with the gas engine off.

I did test drive both a gas and hybrid and the hybrid was just better. If I'm buying a $70k truck I'm getting what I want. I just absolutely love this thing.

To each his own. I have never bought a Tundra or 4Runner for it's 1/4 mile speed. That was never a consideration. Reliability is #1 to me and why I love Toyota. So I go with the engine that is most reliable. Cargo space, interior comfort, etc. are also considerations. In the end, all Toyotas are winners. Start beating up other manufacturers versus other Toyota owners and I am on board.

What fact did I bend? I said nothing about getting up to speed. In fact, in my previous post, I mentioned the only difference I noticed with the hybrid was it's slightly more responsive accelerating from a stop.

Hahahaah most of my problems are solved if I were to just read. Good to know! Thanks for the info, I mis-remembered my research into models when I was shopping last year. I suppose either way, I paid sub-50k for my truck with the nice pleather seats while those hybrids go for 70k+. Don’t blame someone for wanting one, but those dollars are sucked away for me by other hobbies. Must be Skidoo’s fault

You are absolutely correct. Only a higher GVWR.
I personally just wish the payloads were higher.

To be clear, the hybrid has a higher GVWR, but a lower payload capacity and towing capacity.

So, all of Toyota's marketing about the hybrid is basically smoke and mirrors. It will get a heavy load up to speed slightly faster, but that's about it.

Rent a truck when you need to “occasionally tow” the Kubota. Save yourself the financial hit of a new vehicle and keep that ultra reliable Tacoma.

I'm not a hybrid owner but I think it's great they have a "never go back" following. I feel the same way about 10speeds.

I do think there are two features that Toyota has done a horrible job marketing. 1. The Hybrid Tundra. Power, mileage, tow rig... Toyota was never clear and I think a lot of people guessed on their own. 2. AVS/air suspension. Great feature that most don't understand and it takes some work to figure it out from Toyota.

    well said.

I still think toyota needs to add more value to the hybrid model, storage somewhere and if not a full ford like generator, at least at a 100% bare minimum, an inverter that can power some actual things, even my wife's Sienna has 1,500 watts

When would you need 1500 watts in a Sienna, like running what?

whatever you want, pumps for rafts, toys, basketballs, we cooked in a crock pot on the way to a party, bigger cooler/freezer for travel plug in vacuum (which we have).

there are tons of uses for 1500 watts

nice thing with that package it came with two plug locations as well.

I think that kind of proves the point. Why is the minivan given that but they exclude it from their trucks?

Ahhhhh . . . The joy of the internet. A place where grown men come together to try to convince other grown men to change their mind or opinion based on words and the occasional “menstrual” mention.

I thought that only happened on the Mustang and 4runner forums.

Well I’m off to the Oil sub forum, and the lift forums, where everyone seems to agree . . .

It would be kind of a boring website without forum discussion no?

As far as this thread, I got the hybrid to flex on people who couldn't afford the hybrid. So for me, it was worth it.
