    Hi everyone,

From Long Island and have been lurking for quite some time. Married to my college sweetheart with two knuckleheads (5 and 3) and one more on the way. Have been wanting a truck for the following:

    1. Desk jockey by trade so I look forward to the several Home Depot type projects that come by a few times a year. Paid for college by working with a framer over each summer so he gave me the confidence to do things myself (with YouTube’s help of course).
    2. Grew up big beach bum and camper and my family, particularly my wife, has really taken to both the last two years. Probably will get some sort of lightweight camper to tow eventually.

    Currently own:

    1. 2009 corolla with 131k miles. Bought it when my grandfather was about to turn his 3 year lease in with 8,000 miles. Only fixes I’ve had to so far were a $100 alternator and an $80 coil pack, though the heat is acting funny recently. Engine and transmission run like butter but the body is in bad shape since I let people in 3 different incidents slide. I’m not that nice but since it was my grandfathers I thought best to treat people as he would have. Since it runs so good but is not worth much (2k-4K?) I’ll probably just keep it to use as commuter or find someone who could use a reliable cheap car and give them a break as my grandfather would have himself.
    2. 2010 Camry with 90k miles which I bought new. Wife drives it now but since she only works 3 days a week at a job 10 miles away, the miles aren’t adding up like they used to. Only fix was a $100 starter which like the corolla I was able to do myself, and recently a tiny motor controlling the heat/ac which i believe was called the door actuator (?) which I gave a friend a few hundred to fix.
    3. 2017 sienna with 31k mikes and no issues, other than a replaced tire (which I know is not Toyota’s fault but I was disappointed to have to buy a new tire with only 5k miles, meanwhile costco replaces punctures infinitely)

Hope that wasn’t too long winded. I don’t spend money often but when I do I make sure it’s quality, which is why I’m drawn to Toyota. Got the go ahead for the tundra. Want the sr5 with sport due to lack of chrome, rear sway bar, bigger gas tank. Wife and I aren’t big leather people so doesn’t make sense to spend money on higher trim (but I wish I could get a sunroof at sr5 level!).

After I buy the truck I’ll have a ton of questions that I swear I’ll try and find the answer before asking. For now, my questions are:

    1. 2019s seemed to go about 11.2% (told you I’ve been lurking) under msrp. Any experience with 2020s yet? Quick visit with first dealer went only $1,500 under.
    2. How is factory tri-fold cover and side steps? They seem ok, but I think the diamondback cover is what I really want and it’s only a few hundred more than the 1,300 factory cover. Like I said earlier, I don’t spend money often but I don’t want to make a decision based on a few hundred bucks. The issue is I don’t know how easy it is going to be to find a sport without those options already on the truck, so I don’t know if it’s worth trying to find one without.

Thank you in advance for your time.

    G-unit

I’m between white, mgm and voodoo blue. I go back and forth on color so I’ll probably get whichever one I can get my hands on.

That’s a pretty extreme range. Get the blue. White and MGM are the two slowest colors.

I know extreme. I always loved white. But wondering if I should be more bold.

Welcome from SC. I love my 2019 TRD Sport. Mine did not come with factory side steps and they were cheaper and easy to add myself. Good luck with the hunt and make sure you get exactly what you want.

    Welcome from Florida!

I just picked up a 2020. When I was online shopping for a tundra, I did not find the color and option in the '19. 2019 Double Cab 4x4 is kind of hard to find where I live. The demand here is more on the Crew Max Version. I have to go with the 2020 to get what I wanted. I did not get my truck below MSRP, but I did get it below dealer sticker price with their dealer installed option.

Tri-fold cover us great! But I am a big fan of Undercover 1 classic piece tonneau cover. It's black abs plastic and you can stand on it and do not have to worry about scratching. Down side it, trips to home depot with big items. You have to completely remove it. Plan ahead.

I got an SR5. With in the last 5 weeks, I've been upgrading my truck to be a sport/off-road/platinum/pro hybrid. Slowly getting rid of all the chrome, install Bilstein 5100, TRD sway bars, leveler, etc. I'll be spending my upgrade money where I want it to go, not factory trim/dealer options.

    Good luck!

Reason I bought undercover fir my '05.

Thanks, btw, mine is Cavalry Blue a bit more subtle than the VooDoo blue. I get a lot of compliments on the color.
