I have the 8yr/125k warranty and the peace of mind is what justifies the cost for me.

Welcome from eastern CO! While I don’t have @ColoradoTJ’s level of towing experience, I do have some with towing comparable weights between a 2013 RW Tundra and a 2012 3/4 ton Duramax from when I was farming. A few times the diesel was in the shop, I pulled 10-12,000 lb liquid fertilizer trailers behind the 2013 RW we had as a spare. Did it handle it ok? Sure it did. Was it smart to do? Definitely not. But I did make a point to start braking a lot sooner than I did while in the DM, and overall was a lot more attentive while pulling that kind of weight. The diesel was a great at pulling anything, I think the heaviest load I ever put behind that 3/4 ton was around 20,000 lbs, and it handled it without issue. If it were me, I’d follow Chris’ recommendation and keep your Duramax for the heavy stuff and let the Tundra handle DD and light towing duties.

Welcome! I have to agree with what ColoradoTJ & zcarpenter have said. I too have used my Tundra for towing whenever I wasn’t able to do it with my Duramax. Yes the Tundra it has the power to do so but that’s it, especially when comparing 1/2 ton to a 3/4 or 1 ton. I’m fortunate to be able to have the best of both worlds, my 14 DC Tundra is my daily driver and my 16 GMC Duramax 1 ton is for my trailers. I drive a fair bit 70/75k per year with almost a even split between the 2.
