I have a 2000 toyota tundra 4.7 and recently I have developed an issue with the fuel pump not going on. Both times it's happened I was listening to music with the engine NOT ON and then when I go to restart the truck cranks sputters dies then just cranks and sputters. I dropped the tank to check the fuel pump. Bench tested the pump it flowed great put it back it the truck and after a jump boom it was fixed like it had never skipped a beat. I did nothing to consider a fix just disassemble and reassemble. And before someone says check the connector I did the second time it happened (which is currently now) and it changed nothing. I even tried to jump the fuel pump to always on with a 12+ power probe and that didn't work its like there is no power flowing anywhere on the circut. This truck did have a remote start and the fob was lost idk if that matters but I'm trying to yall the best chance.

Did you check for rodents? They Looooove chewing through wiring and plastics around the fuel tank (and under the intake), and love nesting on top of the fuel pump/tank. Pics of that in this thread if you search for "rodent".

Does this only happen primarily when warm? If yes, have you tried bypassing the fuel resistor? Heatsoak tends to mess with resistors, and your fuel pump has two power feeds, one direct from the relay socket (high flow mode), another via the fuel resistor (low flow mode).

Have you tested the relay for power when the truck won't start?

I mean, the part about "couldn't jump the fuel pump with 12v" is really freaking weird, since fuel pumps don't give a shit: You give them power, they turn on. It sounds like you're saying it's not the case, and if so, uh, you have a wiring issue.

IIRC, the fuel pump should never be running unless either (A) you've got the key all the way forward in the crank position fully, or (B) the truck is running, i.e. crank position sensor is sending feedback to confirm that fact

I know about the only runs when cranking. I haven't checked for power at the relay. I alsoredy checked the wires when this happened previously and they all looked good except for being a touch on the older side. I'm going to try somthing and I'm going to run a power probe to the ground and positive of the pump and if it pumps and the truck starts what would that mean for me I'm so confused about this.

Corrosion in connections along the way to the fuel pump has led other 1st gen members into some really weird symptoms also...

But that said, have you seen this video? There's a tad of misinfo in here about when the pump kicks on but otherwise may give you some thoughts to run with on troubleshooting.

Did you figure out what was the problem by chance? My truck has the same exact problem and I’ve been chasing it for the past 2 months
