One of the fabric(pleather?) panels on the passenger door of my 2004 Tundra has repeatedly come loose. It appears that the plastic underlayer it attaches to is also loose, as one of the pins that holds it to the door is broken.

Before I take the easy route and get some 3M universal spray adhesive to pin it in place, is there a better route?
I am going to sell this and don't really want to spend a bunch on what's basically a cosmetic piece.

Those plastic rivets are that way on purpose to allow future removal, and when removed, you can recasted them. Reinstall is easy, you get a thin flatwasher and a short shank pan head screw and screw it back down using the tube part of the plastic rivet hole. Need a pic? I can find one, it’s on this forum, BubbaW and I have both shown the “how”.

You’d need to do the following:

    • Get a good adhesive, like Barge or Super 77.
    • Brush the panel and the backside of the fabric, let them flash separately for a few minutes
    • Stick them together after the adhesive has time to flash
    • Once it’s dry as you’d want, use a panhead and flat washer to re-secure the insert panel in that spot.

There's no hole in the interior side of the white plastic for a screw, and wouldn't I need to attach that before covering it with the stuff being adhesed on?

That would be highly unusual. Got a picture from the inside?

    See this: https://www.tundras.com/threads/door-panel-recover-easy-diy.134997/

Note the couple of links I posted a ways down the thread. You can see the interior of my door and an example of the pan head with washer. And you can clearly see the hole in the melted rivet part. The plastic rivets are hollow center, which is how they can melt them down to hold the panel inserts in place.

I'm not seeing any holes in the plastic. Is the screw supposed to go the other way, from taking the entire interior panel assembly out and then screwing back towards the inside of the truck with the plastic at the tip end of the screw?

Did you at the links provided? Very clear pictures of the back side of the panel where the work must be done.

See the nub in your 1st pic you posted? The nub that fits in the hole drilled in the main door panel? That’s where the screw/washer goes.

See the last two pictures of the 1st reply in the post I linked above.

There’s a ton of link-outs in that thread to thread a like this: https://www.tundras.com/threads/interior-door-panel-re-carpeting.88361/

BubbaW has posted similar links showing how to swap/deal with the panel inserts.
