Sadly, you will use that war
Nope, no way I would own an 3rd gen until Toyota can build it without imploding. People all over this site are calling out transmission, rear end, overheating, and yes main bearing basically falling apart. Currently Toyota is building a crap filled tundra.

Give it a couple more years. If Toyota can’t fix the problems they are done in the 1/2 ton North American market.
My old 5.7 is just fine.

160k people don't agree with your done in the market quote. Sales and market % are increasing.

Guess no gamble at all right now. Makes total sense to buy a new Tundra.

Maybe or maybe not. But any claims that Tundra sales are suffering are not backed up by sales data. Sales surge is being accelerated by rebates so over production is a an issue. But price a new one right and it will move.

There are still some dealers hovering around sticker that have trucks piling up. My local dealer is not price competitive and their lot looks like they are a Tundra only dealer.

Sales increasing does not necessarily reflect intelligence in that purchase. And from what I’ve seen and heard fleet sales of the tundra to rental companies has been increasing this year.

Yep, you're supposed to sell your trash 3rd gen and get an old, used 2nd gen. You know, because everyone wants one of those...

ya, ok, sorry, guess I have to get with the program and dump my perfectly running truck that I like and is not even recalled anyways as of now.

I just did 1200 miles towing and it was awesome, auto load leveling rear was perfect, pulling power is something.

lol, I loved my 5.7 , Im not a MPG guy so I never really gave a shit, I had one of the pigs as well for some reason. I never got over 15 no matter what the hell I did.

That said, I just got 16-17 towing with near max payload (including tongue weight) and that is same or better than my 16 got empty on the same trip.

this one pulls way better though I will say that, you ease the pedal down just a bit and it goes right to 2,400-2,500 Rpm, boost spools up and it just pulls, nice, easy, and smooth, Aisin also did a wonderful job (as usual) with the trans.

I just put this clueless Jtruck guy is on my ignore list. It isn't often I do that, but it is warranted in this case. He has nothing constructive to add and only creates a lot of chaos and wasted postings. Don't take the bait, but if you can't resist, the ignore button can be very useful.

Wow. @JJtruckon said a few facts and gave his opinion. Didn’t say anything that’s untrue and certainly didn’t attack any of you personally. If you can’t handle an opposing view on the Tundra in a Tundra forum, maybe truck forums aren’t for you. You can block all you want and talk about rainbows and unicorns, but that’s not going to make this problem go away.

    thats bs man.

    how is me saying this

and then him saying this an opposing viewpoint?

I said FOR ME, it was the best half ton.

nobody said anything about personal attacks or opposing view points.

so you don't think a massive generalization about "how can anyone buy one", basically saying they are all shit in a 3rd gen tundra section being met with some opposition when are in fact, way more trucks without this problem than with it surprising?

respectfully, sounds like you may need to take your own advice about truck forums.

FWIW, I did not block anyone and understand truck forums, Ive been on them since 2000 (tundrasolutions) with a 2000 tundra I got in late 1999 and have owned 5.

    take care.

I really want to see the google spreadsheet that had listed all of the engine failures.

I didn't read every page of this thread so someone might have already mentioned this: the hybrids aren't part of the recall only because it's a 'Safety' recall and the hybrid version can still move (out of harm's way?) after a catastrophic engine failure whereas the gas version just stops wherever it stops.

LOL. Let me break it down for you. Your defensiveness makes you read what you want to read and not what he wrote.

He said, "why would anyone even be thinking about purchasing this new Tundra." "Thinking". That means currently. Meaning with the uncertainty of engines exploding and Toyota not having announced what the remedy is going to be, it's a logical statement which the vast majority of non 3rd Gen owners will agree to. You just took it personally. He also said give it a couple of years for Toyota to sort this out. Another true statement because this will take a couple of years to rectify.

He didn't say why you purchased this truck before the whole recall mess. You took it as that. You were already arguing something that wasn't pertaining to you. Just because he quoted you, doesn't mean he was talking about your situation.

No one is questioning why someone bought a 3rd Gen before the recall. If I were in the market for one a year or two ago, I would've bought one too. And when it's time for me to buy another truck, I'll most likely get the 3rd Gen if they get these issues sorted out. But no way in hell I'd buy one right now. It's just foolish to whether you see it or not.

Anyways, I'm leaving for vacation tomorrow and I'm not getting into this bickering right now. I'm just pointing out that any time any non 3rd Gen owner makes any comment, they get attacked. Logic just gets thrown out the window. I don't understand why you guys are SOOOO defensive. Toyota is fixing this now because of the uproar from people. Pretending there isn't a problem won't help you. If everyone kept quiet, Toyota would've just kept on doing what they were doing. Replacing blown motors with the same faulty motor.

Just a general question, why are there so many non 3rd gen owners in the forum? I haven't participated in any of the bickering, but have followed since the 3rd gen was announced. Sort of funny how people like to spend their time online when it does not pertain to them

Because I'm interested in buying a new Tundra. I'm sorry, I didn't realized the Gen III club had a secret handshake and decoder ring.

I've been around the block a few times and twisted a few wrenches too. I'd like to think I'm helping instead of hindering but maybe, hopefully your post wasn't directed at me.

I've already called out one member for his turd dropping and don't approve of that behavior either.

It’s one forum - the majority of tundra owners are not third gen owners... I’ve been tracking this shitshow from the very beginning. I was called a naysayer when I pointed out there was something alarming about the number of failures early on. If you want to constant reassurance from other 3rd gen owners, you guys can start a PM and keep out those whose opinions you don’t want to hear.

I’ve been into cars and trucks and been building and wrenching on them for over 30 yrs. Been a member on many various forums for years. This Toyota community and forum has an abundance of babies and jerks who want to put down other vehicle generations/ makes and poke at others dealing with potential major issues.

People bashing each other on brands and 2nd Gen guys bashing 3rd Gen guys. On how their truck sucks and the constant comments about how glad they are to have their 2nd Gen. Good for you. 3rd Gen guys putting down 2nd Gen guys over archaic technology.

Total lack of camaraderie in this community.

That about sums it up. As you can see, Some are a bit emotional “which is understandable to a point” regarding Toyota and this current Tundra.
Hopefully Toyota will put the effort in to makes this a bullet proof vehicle at some point.

Been on this forum for YEARS. Plenty of camaraderie between members.
Plenty. Lots of comments made in jest and serious comments too. All previous gen Tundra members got along fine. Still do. Quite frankly it seems only recently that a few 3rd gen owners can't accept anything negative. Overly defensive. My 2 cents

I think your premise here is pretty interesting. They are the not a top three producer which makes it easier to take share and for it to be noticeable. It would be interesting to know the composition of the Gen3 buyers. I was a Ford guy and not a Toyota fan boy. It seems like most of the Gen3 owners I've talked to had something other than a Toyota previously. Maybe moving away from their base?

Yes, you joined a few years after the wheel was invented. When it was only @Bob and Jesus on here.

The damn 1st Gen guys been giving us shit for years. But never have I heard a 2nd Genner call a 1st Genner jealous or too poor to afford a new truck. That's just some childish ass shit. The only thing I am certain about though is the 2.5G is vastly superior to the 2G.
