Nice to see Car Care Nut is also one of us Tundra owners. Good in-site and calming. Mine was built late in fall 2023 so I haven’t been apart of this phase of the recall but still gives me that worry in the back of my mind.

The part I found interesting and new was where he talked about the #1 and #4 bearing part numbers expiring in April 2024 but not having supersessions at the time of taping his video. I wonder what became of that.

I want to see more of TCCN's tundra, looks like he nabbed one of the 1794 Limited Editions.

Im pretty sure most motor oils have very low ZDDP nowadays because it doesnt play nicely with cats.

Maybe that’s why only a small percentage are failing… corrosion induced failure would make some sense with the avg mileage on these units when they fail being close to 30k miles…

Zinc in the samples from the analysis thread seems to run ~800 ppm.

Also would align with failures occurring with less miles on the 2024 models when the factory oil analysis showed more zinc…

The zinc is likely from the oil additives...i.e. ZDDP. The levels are very consistent for most of the samples.

I really appreciated the way he would compile information and update the OP of each "Official" thread with new information as it came up. I understand why he was banned but he brought a lot of great info to the site.

Seems like it’s gone from around 600-700 up to 800-1,000 from what I’ve seen.

Different oils with slightly different additive levels. Also different mileage since change.

Not motor specifically I don't think, but the dealer can pull up the manufacture date of your truck. I just did this myself when I was by the dealer this past weekend, come to find out my specific manufacture date was 2/13/23. VIN isn't part of the recall though.

The main thing i heard in that video was he has no idea how the debris could only get into the #1 main bearing and not anything else, like the Rod bearings or other main bearings. He doesnt know where the debris would be sitting that it would only affect the one bearing.

The month it rolled off the assembly line is typically on the door jamb sticker. Speculation has been the engines are assembled a few weeks prior.

It took awhile, but it sounds to me like Toyota is zeroing in on the issue and a resolution. It may take another couple of years for them to make it right for the majority of those affected, but I believe they will. The real question is whether they will try to shortcut the fix and lay so much responsibility on the dealers. If they do that, they are likely looking at another PR nightmare. I've driven a '24 SR5 (a rental) and it has almost everything my '20 1794 has. The tech has definitely been expanded in the new Tundras. But I did not think the seats were as comfortable as mine, and the shape of the hood creates blinding glare when driving west in the late afternoon, but if someone were to hit mine and total it, I would definitely consider a '24 or '25.

Call the dealer and they can tell you the exact day. My door jamb sticker says "02/23" and I found today that my date of manufacture was actually 2/22/23. Just outside the recall window...at least for now.

As above, sticker in door jam. Engine serial number can be obtained by dealer service running a TIS report.
