Yeah I think the option for turning on the puddle lights with the cargo bed switch is useful when backing up or when offroad.

Now it's choosing between VLED or the ones on Amazon. Do you think the VLEDs are worth twice the cost ?

I can’t compare, but I will say the VLED kit made for a clean install, it’s very bright, and the lights feel very well made.

Good location for the rock lights.

Did you have cut the length of the bolts and how secure is it to the mirror since it's not low profile?

I used smaller self tapping screws. There's enough room for the other ones if you wanted to use them. They're really tight, sit flat. Don't even notice them. I put silicone around the screw holes and where the wire came through. Wife wants me to do her sequoia with them.

If you already have them 10 min to swap out. If doing from scratch took me about 2 hrs taking my time

I can bare tell the rock lights are on your mirrors. Noticed more your formidable looking forerunner hoop bumper.

    That's a great looking front end ;)

Great install write up and pictures! Thanks for sharing. I still can't believe that they deleted these on the newer Tundras. One of the things I liked about my 07 versus my 16.

I have installed ChainLink lights for my footwell lights, so far they work great. Dim to off when truck is turned on. Total I have (3) 1W lights in eachLamp.jpg Lamp 2.jpg Lamp 3.jpg front footwells and (2) 1W on the back of each front seat for back floor lighting. I plan on using (5) 2W ChainLink modules mounted on a strip of aluminum which will mount on the side of the frame with fold over clips. ChainLinks are IP66.

Big question is where do you run the wire through the firewall?

What if I bought replacement lights that had the puddle light and turn signal light would those be plug and paly with my existing plug on 2015 SRD TSS, don't really care about the folding or heated but the replacement mirrors have them

I would doubt they would plug right in. I think you’ll have to run wire for signal and light.

Thanks @panicman and @VTYOTA for the detailed write up. My old mirrors didn't come up easily as the videos show.

Glad I opted for VLEDS instead of the cheaper stuff on Amazon

You won't be sorry going with the VLEDs. Mine still make me smile when I unlock the truck at night.

Yeah those little LEDs emit a ton of light.
I hope they'll be durable in the rain and snow

Brand new here and just ordered some VLED puddle lights after reading this thread. Thank You - it is an awesome description of what I need to do ... but ... I'm wondering if anyone can confirm the color of the cargo light wire I need to tap into for my 2016 Tundra. I read a reference to "brown" but sure would like to be sure... Thank You!

If you install the VLED puddle lamps along with the VLED footwell light kit, you can use their 2 pin 2 way splitter cable and tie into the LED footwell lights no splicing required

Hmmmm...I might look into that. Just in case, if I have to go the cargo connection route, do you (or anyone else) happen know what color that darn wire is on the 2016? Thank You, Thomas!

Welcome! In my 2018, it was a pink wire. I think the earlier ones were brown. I would recommend getting a variety of posi-taps, which will allow you to experiment by tapping into the likely wires and narrow down the correct one without damaging anything.

Definitely scour this site first though- somebody FOR SURE isolated the cargo light on a ‘16 for a project they posted.

Thank you, so much Eric! I pulled the door sill off today and I saw a light brown wire referenced in the link. Think I'll pull the cargo lens off and just confirm - hopefully, Toyota didn't change the wire midstream. Also, great job on the puddle light install tutorial! That is going to make my life much easier.

I have to say that you guys are pretty dang cool on this site. I hope to return the favor one of these days...

Thanks @panicman @VTYOTA , completed my install yesterday. Soldered and heat wrapped all my connections. Only issue I had was I broke the mirror glass on the re-installation, luckily I had old chrome mirrors around with extra glass, otherwise i'd have been a little upset...
