I tried searching, but couldn't find what I'm looking for so if someone knows where I can find a similar thread let me know.
I bought some LED strip lights to install in my bed. The directions they give show taking it up to the battery to install. I thought I saw on here or another site that someone just hooked them up to the cargo light circuit so they came on anytime the cargo light was on. Can someone help me with how to wire them into the cargo light circuit.

You can tap into the cargo light circuit wire located in the wire loom, in the channel, underneath the plastic scuff plate in the driver side rear seat area. The scuff plate just pops up and you will see the wire loom underneath it. Just take off a portion of the loom cover until you have exposed the individual wires in the loom. The wire you are looking for is an almost black (depending on how bright your work lighting is) and looks dark grayish/purplish to me under strong light. You may need to test several of the wires to find the right one. I think the easiest way to test the wires is to use a PosiTap to tap into the wire you are testing and then check the wire with a test light. Ground the test light negative clip to a good ground point then touch the test light positive point to the PosiTap. Do this with the rear door open and watch for the test light to light up along with your dome light and cargo light. Then, while still connected, push in on the door close sensor until the dome and cargo lights go out. If your test light went out at the same time, you have found the right wire. I ran my positive wire from my bed and step lights along the frame with the other wiring and came up under the scuff plate through one of the drip edge holes. Fished it up into the scuff plate channel, and then used a 7.5 amp fused wire along with the PosiTap. For your lighting ground wire, just locate any good ground point on the frame or near the tail light area. When everything is said and done, your bed lights will illuminate along with your cargo light anytime you unlock your truck with the key fob, open the door, or when you flip the interior switch to the "on" position. Make sure you use wiring loom and some wire ties when routing your wiring underneath the truck and plastic ties to secure it/protect the wiring. The LED's don't pull much amps to necessitate the use of a relay. I installed 4, 6 watts each, lights over my steps and 2 6 watt bed lights (only 3 amps total) and had no problems. Hope this helps some!

Thanks Ron! I've been waiting to install some puddle lights and I'm gonna use your advice to wire 'em. I installed sliders today so it's now time for the lights.

Thanks for your help. I'm going to try and install them this week. Hunting season is coming up and it's always a pain in the ass trying to find stuff in the bed since I have the cover on it. Hopefully this will brighten it up a little.

Yes, sir, I got the same set of instructions when I bought my OEM bed lights. What I didn't like about the instructions was that you have to remove a lot more scuff plates/panels to do the install per their instructions, plus you have to run the wires all the way to the front seat area and under carpeting. The way I wired mine, used less wire and did not require removing anything except the rear driver side scuff plate. In addition, I have always found the driver kick panel to be a pain in the back side to get back on properly but I'm sure that is just me.

Where did you ground it to the frame at? Is there a screw somewhere that you attached it to? Or did you add a screw somewhere? Can I just hook it into the ground wire that is in that same wire loom?

I used one of my step mount bolts to ground it. I just made sure that it made good contact.

Last questions for you. Did you add a fuse when you hooked into the wire? I fished the wire up into the door scuff plate area and into the bed so now I just need to get the tester to determine exactly which wire it is. It looks like there are two wires that are very similar in color. Also did you do anything to protect your wire where you ran it up through that drip hole? I had to cut the outside insulation off of the wire they supplied in order to get the wire up through there so it's just the small wires and I'm afraid they may rub there a little and eventually short out.

Yes, I used an in-line 7.5 amp fuse at my connection to the cargo circuit. I tapped the wire with the PosiTap, ran a short length of wire to a fuse, then to my cargo light wire. On the wire you ran up through the drip hole, I used some black silicone to seal the wire up in the hole. Here is a picture of the wiring loom and the wire you need but your wire could be anywhere in the loom. Just know that it is one of the thin ones.

It is the one on the far right.....

Thanks for all of you help. I appreciated it. That wire and the wire that is the 4th from the right I think are the two I am having telling them apart. My lights say to use a 3 amp fuse so I may pick one up.

Keep in mind that the cargo light circuit is a 7.5 amp circuit. That is why I used the same sized fuse as the original circuit as well as the additional step lights I added.

My Tundra came with this feature (LED bed lights) when I bought it. Looking on the Toyota web site it was like a 200-250 dollar adder. Well worth it since I duck hunt a lot.
I also changed by top back cab lights to LED and they are a lot brighter than the crappy stock bulbs.

Got it all wired up and it is working great right now. When I was hooking it up, I must have shorted it out because I blew a fuse, now that it's all hooked up it's good to go. Now I just have to wait till it warms up later this week to actually stick them on and finalize the wiring.

Bought same thing on Amazon this week and just installed. No wiring. Works great! Installed light at cab end and switch switch within easy reach of the tailgate under tonneau. No wires. No fuses. Perfect for me. Thanks for the idea. @SuperSilverTundra

Comes with two 3M sticky squares on the back of the light. Mounted light center cab-side bed.

Nothing fancy, but works for me.

Boom, there you go. Ran out of batteries yet? I would assume they last a long time being LED's. Might get a 4 pack of these and really light up the bed, or start with two. Thanks!

Haven't needed to change batteries. Great thing about this light is one control button turns on all of the led light bars within range.
