I was at Toyota today for an oil change and one of the techs was walking by and asked how I liked my Kings.
I said, well - I'm actually having an issue and can't find anyone locally to charge with Nitro. He said - oh, give this guy a call.
As soon as I pulled out of the service bay, I called up the shop. Talked to a guy and asked if they had Nitro and he said yep - we can. I asked if they could rebuild a King reservoir, and he said bring it on in. I went straight there. The owner came out, grabbed a bottle of Nitro, charged up the shock - and it held the charge! This was about an hour ago. in 3hrs I'll be driving home and hopefully it's still holding.
When I charged with the air compressor and I could hear the air leak, I'm guessing the 125PSI wasn't enough.
Now, with a full charge of 150PSI nitro - it worked.
Best damn ride of my life on the way to work :)

    Totally bummed.
Hopped in the truck tonight, pulled out of the driveway at work.......and clunk.
Nitrogen leaked out, so they do need new seals I guess. Damnit!
After the fill, it was good for 20 miles. Couldn’t hear the leak like you could with compressed air.

Man, I missed out on this thread.

My kings and bumps were shipped without N2 (due to shipping size), where the typical CO shock for the Tundra is shipped charged.

Word of advice if your going to own a premium shock:

-buy a N2 bottle, and a zero loss charge line. I have 280.00 total in my setup.
-have a spare rebuild kit (22.00)
-Have a gallon of shock oil.
-learn to rebuild the shock yourself.

Thanks Chris - I’m really debating the nitro bottle setup. I don’t want to have to deal with this again.
What’s your take on a King rebuild - and it would just be my reservoir rebuilding correct? I drove on the one side for hundreds of miles trying to figure out the issue, until finally figuring it out.

You drove it too far, whole shock needs rebuilt. If the new shop can rebuild it, I suggest doing that, shipping is terrible. Chances are they would be blown up from shipping when you recieve.

So it’s the actual seals on the end of the shaft inside the shock.
That sucks. I just watched this video - seems pretty simple?

Can you elaborate more on the “blown up from shipping”?

In my opinion, you really need to invest in a N2 bottle and charge line.

Cyber weld is a great place to purchase N2 bottle. Hell, HF sells them.
Do not cheap out on the charge kit. Get the line 0-400 psi. Bump stops can really get up ther in pressure. If you never plan on running ORI struts, no need to go higher. Check into Schmidty Racing Suspensions for kit. Best price on quality manifolds, regulators, and line.

I would pull everything apart, but that’s just me. If King has offered a free replacement....boom, done.

N2deep was trying to give you solid advice, and I would have said the same thing had I seen this earlier. He was just trying to verify and troubleshoot.

This is how mine showed up the second time, third was a charm. I ship stuff, I will not ship shocks to be rebuilt.
The rebuild is nothing, easy. No you would likely be leaking oil, but they were overheating the whole time. Do as you will, it may last for a bit.

It’s just that simple. Little different with the reservoir. Just download the rebuilding instruction. Pretty simple.

Like Vizsla suggested, sending shocks out is expensive. Now if King or the vendor is paying for it, send them out or have the vendor send a shock and then return the craptastic one.

I had a set of Kings that were sent to me that were supposed to be 14”, but 12” shocks arrived. The vendor had King sent me new ones and paid to have the shocks returned.

    Thanks guys!!
I’ll check the shop I went to today and see what they say about a rebuild.
Worrying about shipping back to King is something I don’t care to deal with, but if I have to I will.

I have to rebuild one of my Kings due to damaging a shaft. So I will need to replace that, re-seal, and while I’m there revalve the shock.

It’s time I did a thread on it like promised a long time ago. Life happens. The parts will be in next week.

Schmidty Racing has everything you need.

Also check out DSM, a vendor on here. They hooked me up on parts to rebuild my CO.

I’m reaching out to them today and will check. I just assumed that it would take a few weeks between shipping and labor. Although we have the spare car, I don’t drive it in the rain, and definitely not up hunting. Local would be easy and if it’s a few hundred that’s easier for me and I’ll eat it.

If you buy an N2 setup make sure you have a place that can fill it. Otherwise it's only good until it runs out and then it becomes a pain. Local Airgas or similar.

Wow that a beefy shaft you've got there Chris.
I'm a big fan of DMS too, have done a ton of business with them but my 2 experiences were very good.

Good stuff. I will buff the current one out or have it repaired for a spare. When the big trips are on, we bring welders, rebuild kits for shocks, N2, steel, etc.

    Thx!
I swap my oxy-accet torch and argon welder bottles at Airgas - I would assume they have N20, but I will call and check! Good call.
I’m going to purchase a bottle setup, and also a spare rebuild kit.
I found a guy to do a quick rebuild for $60-$100 so I can get back on the road hunting. I just have to yard out the CO pull off the spring and bring the shock in and he’ll rebuild.
    That’s the plan!
